View Full Version : Have Conservatives Gone Mad?

It would seem so...

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/04/have-conservatives-gone-mad/39417/

Can anyone deny that the most trenchant and effective criticism of President Obama today comes not from the right but from the left? Rachel Maddow's grilling of administration economic officials. Keith Olbermann's hectoring of Democratic leaders on the public option. Glenn Greenwald's criticisms of Elena Kagan. Ezra Klein and Jonathan Cohn's keepin'-them-honest perspectives on health care. The civil libertarian left on detainees and Gitmo. The Huffington Post on derivatives.

I want to find Republicans to take seriously, but it is hard. Not because they don't exist -- serious Republicans -- but because, as Sanchez and others seem to recognize, they are marginalized, even self-marginalizing, and the base itself seems to have developed a notion that bromides are equivalent to policy-thinking, and that therapy is a substitute for thinking.

It is absolutely a condition of the age of the triumph of conservative personality politics, where entertainers shouting slogans are taken seriously as political actors, and where the incentive structures exist to stomp on dissent and nuance, causing experimental voices to retrench and allowing a lot of people to pretend that the world around them is not changing. The obsession with ACORN, Climategate, death panels, the militarization of rhetoric, Saul Alinsky, Chicago-style politics, that TAXPAYERS will fund the bailout of banks -- these aren't meaningful or interesting or even relevant things to focus on. (The banks will fund their own bailouts.)

Why do you insist on posting every paragraph of GOP bashing that you run across on the internet as if it's relevant?

I mean look at that guys' byline picture.

You have to be kidding. I swear you're posting things that you're getting from some anti-Obama listserv. And that's fine. People can post what they like as far as I'm concerned. But you can't point the finger at DS on this.

BTW -- Atlantic Monthly has a decent history. It's not a new, goofy cable tv blog. My parents subscribed for decades.

Of all the stuff I post that's critical of Obama, those two sentences you had a problem with and accuse me of stealing them?

I'm not criticizing the websites' cred or partisanship, just the ridiculous byline pic of that guy. It looks like some bad Will Ferrell Anchorman pose or something. I mean how do you have a proffessional photo shoot taken for your byline pic and that's the photo you choose to go with? It makes it impossible for me to take the guy seriously.

I'm raising the issue of DS's inability to even form an opinion of his own anymore. He's nothing more than a copy & paste machine of anything on the internet that bashes the GOP.

It's boring.

Anyone could do that.
I could fill an entire forum with critical blog quotes of Obama and the Dems. What's the point?

My thoughts exactly. Rob posts every link from FOX News, so I think it's perfectly fine to counter Rob with other sources.

All you can think to discuss is the byline? How about the article and the points made? It's a lot to ask for, I know, but give it a try.

You do fill an entire forum with critical blog quotes of Obama et al. In fact, you're a copy and paste machine for the right-wing movement. And this is on the days when you don't try to pass off those ideas as your own original writing.

Sorry Charlie, I post way more clever and interesting crap than you ever did.
Thus the reason nobody's discussing this topic other than how lame you are for posting it. Because it isn't worthy of anyone's time.

Actually the main thrust of this thread seems to be about how hypocritical you are for trying to call people out on the same shit you do. You're the only one saying DroppinScience is lame.

This post is case in point to show how delusional the right is getting. These wackjobs have gotten so far off center that they've lost track of where center is.

To make things worse, they think everyone else is equally delusional and they try to use that to justify their crazy-ass ideologies. You've got Rob here saying shit like "EVERYONE thinks DroppinScience is so lame". Um, you're the only one here saying that shit. You've gotten so delusional that you think you're an army.

So which response will I get? (a) try to make fun of my username that's already a joke (b) tell me to go to general Beastie forum where the other 10-year-olds hang out, (c) try to somehow say I'm elitist, or (d) make up a new weak-ass reply so EVERYONE (i.e. only you) will think your so cool and clever.

One voice is a consensus?

I guess since you're intent on driving everyone away from this board, you'll be the only one left.

Is that an ad-hominem attack?

It isn't one voice, as of this post, this thread has 190 views and zero responses addressing your article.
Face it. No one's interested. It's a failure of a thread and a failure of an honest debate.
And you're a failure at life.

I guess you missed the part where I called you a microcosm of the phenominon he brought up in his original post.
