and i'm not talking about movies that are good-bad, like movies by ed wood, john carpenter, or anything with patrick swayze. i'm talking about movies that are so awful that they are somehow physically painful to watch.

my pick goes to coyote ugly.

That first Riddick film, pitch black I think it's called. Switched it off after 30 minutes.

I worked at a video store and we had to play Curly Sue every other movie for a few weeks. That was awful.

Second place probably goes to Battlefield Earth.

Batman & Robin always comes in mind in terms of 'worst ever'.

Oh, and this one: The Musketeer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246544/)

This one's painful.

I like Pitch Black...a lot. Everytime it comes on TV I end up watching it for a while, and I used to have the movie in my DVD collection.

Joe Versus the Volcano. I saw it in the theater as a young one and didn't find any of it funny. Sometimes I feel like I should watch it again just to see if I was just in a odd mood or something, but I don't want to risk it.

Joe v Volcano has a rep, and I have no idea why. I don't thinks it's awful, but it's definitely not very good.

Battlefield Earth is pretty much the end-all be-all. I LOVE bad movies though. I like torturing myself with and making fun of them. Saw one recently called Good Dick that was just a boring, unrealistic abortion of a film. Ugh, so bad. I'm a bigger fan of terrible blockbuster flops, though. The Day The Earth Stood Still (remake) = amaaaaaaazing.

I second (or third) the Joe Vs The Volcano nomination.

Others:

-Waiting To Exhale (I was forced to see it in theaters with women friend, had thoughts about stabbing people for the full duration of the film)

-The Notebook (sorry, people who enjoyed this melodramatic, saccharin-fueled, contrived turd of a movie)

-The English Patient (just the fact that the word "patient" is in the title....)

-Crash (probably more due to the fact that people talked about it like it was just so life-altering and mind-blowing. Guess my life would have to really really suck and my mind be the size of grape in order for that to have actually been the case)

Simply Irresistible

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0145893/

While walking down a street in New York City, a young woman named Amanda (Sarah Michelle Gellar) meets a mysterious man who sells her crabs for her restaurant which is having trouble picking up business. The restaurant was owned by her mother who died and now Amanda is not even sure she can cook. So Amanda accepts the offer, and when a crab gets away from her she chaces after it and bumps into a man that goes by the name of Tom (Sean Patrick Flanery).

Amanda and Tom get to talking and Tom later brings himself and his superficial girlfriend Chris (Amanda Peet) to Amanda's restaurant. Amanda has trouble making their dishes one minute and then in the next minute it looks professionally done. Nolan (Larry Gilliard Jr.) her friend and co-worker was also amazed by the deliciouse looking food that she had made under five minutes. But when the food was served Chris started to freak out and throw plates around for an unknown reason; She also broke up with Tom.

To pay her back for the damages, Tom tells Amanda that she can come by his store and ask for any plates she wants and he will pay for them. They soon begin to fall for each other; Tom also is falling for her food. He asks Amanda to cook for an event he will be having later and she is perfectly fine with the request.

But when one night they begin kissing, they float up to the ceiling of the restaurantand Tom begins thinking that Amanda is a witch. Amanda is heartbroken and still has to do the event for him. Tom is feeling confused on what to do, but makes the right decision in the end.

Resist it!

i would like to pick my most disappointing films as well, things i had hopes for because of casts or plot lines:

around the world in 80 days, i like steve coogan and jackie chan but it was awful, it was a fight between them for who could outdo who and nobody won. no chemistry, bad effects and crap gags

51st state - sam jackson, robert carlyle and meatloaf in a gangster film. sounded good, was total wank

I second the liking Pitch Black... it's not anything amazing but it's decent and I like SciFi so, :p

But worst movie?
I'd say Cellular but it's almost so bad it's amazing so you can make fun of it.

One that was so awful it hurt to watch was Dreamcatcher.

I second Batman and Robin. But I still watch it when it's on for Uma Thurman's scenes. She's terrible too but somehow still captivating.

I'd also second The Spirit. Too bad, a good cast but so poorly executed.

I'd put Joe V the Volcano in the good bad with stuff like Flash Gordon. I love that movie.

Anyway, I think the one movie I've seen that I was just so disgusted with I actually wanted the two hours of my life back was The Big Hit. I call it The Big Shit.

And I saw Dead Man on Campus. In the theater.
