View Full Version : The relation between dreaming and a full moon?

I have a theory that with the advent of a full moon my dreams become much more intense…the past couple of nights have been pretty wild…the kind of dreams that wake you but you return to sleep and the play goes on from where you woke…anyone see or experience this pattern?

I'm not what I used to be, I'm not what
I'm not what I used to be, and I
I don't know myself from anybody else
I'm not what I used to be, I'm not what
I'm not what I used to be, and I
You don't know what you have done
My frame is here but the mind is gone, gone away

I think its bullshit. As humans we are always looking and finding patterns in things that aren't really there - just look at the fools (yet sometimes really intelligent people) who still believe in astrology.

Also there is a popular myth that NHS put more staff on at A&E on full moons - they don't but we notice a full moon more than not noticing one so again we see a pattern for the sake of seeing it.

We all do it, but logic dictates we should separate these connections as they aren't there.

Also II; Things don't happen in threes
Also III: We all die in 2012

But after saying all that, I do think there is some seasonal changes that can fuck up dreams - I've had some nightmares recently. Not ones where I'm scared like a child cus now I'm an adult I know what they are but they wake me up and I think maaaan. But a season change is less subtle than a moon change, right? - or am I finding a pattern again for the sake of it? Hmmmms.

We need a scientist. Or a priest.

As Adam points out, there are many beliefs concerned with the full moon and the one he mentions re A&E staff is interesting because it is most prevalent amongst hospital staff.

Many of these things are examples of the fascinating human feature of 'confirmation bias'. A link with dreams is at least plausible, however, as a full moon can make the room brighter which could have an impact on sleep.

Personally I would doubt such a link as moon-myths are mostly pure lunacy

Point taken…I’m probably seeking patterns that don’t exist outside of the fact that I’m conscious of the lunar cycle and I’m self connecting said events…most recently I heard dreams explained by an “expert” as your mind clearing or processing things that you have seen, heard or thought of in recent day’s, retaining what’s pertinent and trashing other bits...last night my dreams were very “dad” heavy and sure enough he’s been on my mind as of late in some capacity…what’s different is the intensity and the wake and return to the same dream scenario…that’s rare for me...the question is now that I have this notion in my head will it be a self fulfilling event next month if I’m aware of it…

Psychology...

I wrote a big long reply after first admitting I've read very little on it all. Then I read it back and it made no sense. But I do believe you can easily make a self-fulfilling event just because I have trouble believing in fate generally - although its comforting to think fate does exist.

I had a dream that I overslept and was late for work. and then it happened!

I dunno about the full moon, but this seasonal change is f-ing me up big time. My sleep patterns are all funked up and I feel really tired and sneezy.
