Steger's in the hospital

Hey BBMB family,

Steger (aka Mr. Boomin' Granny) is in the ICU. He went into cardiac arrest several times yesterday and is still on life support. He has stabilized and is improving in tiny increments, but he was without oxygen for a pretty long period and it's going to be a rough couple of days until his family knows how he'll be. Please keep him, his wife (and their baby-to-be) and all of their loved ones in your thoughts.

That is horrible - oddly enough I thought of him the other day when I saw the pic of you and your new beau.

Even though I don't know him personally he was a swell chap around here and looked great in 80's workout gear. He left me with the impression that he is quite a bright person who has handled his disease with positivity.

Sad to hear this news - one of the weird things of being on a board with people you don't know but know, you sorta create this connection with them regardless and hearing of bad things happening to your fellow board members and their friends or family always sucks.

Thanks everyone. Matt is a great person, and we've stayed friends over the years and still talk quite often. I'm shaken up too. I'll keep everyone updated when I hear more from his wife and friends.

He's still making improvements here and there. His responsiveness has really increased, which is pretty much a miracle. He can nod, and save for the breathing tubes has even started trying to speak a little. There is still a very long way to go, but for now things are looking incredible. If there's one thing I know about him is that he is a fighter and can make it through just about anything. His wife is such a trooper. She's probably been the strongest of everyone, and hasn't given up on him for a second. And the woman is SIX MONTHS PREGNANT. Such a fucking champ. She appreciates all your good thoughts, so from her and from me (and I'm sure from Steger too) thank you, thank you, thank you. Keep cheering for him to get home soon!!

Although I never really directly spoke to Steger, I always enjoyed reading his posts. They made me giggle and he really seems like a great guy.

It's a great time for medical miracles. My uncle just came to complete remission after being diagnosed 6 months ago with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. At that time they said his time left was measured in months but the last tests showed no tumors.

High hopes for a full recovery.

From his wife: "Matt has been getting out of bed, walking down the hall with a walker, chatting, and eating some. He was moved out of ICU late this afternoon." She says there are still some "huge hurdles" but that every day he's better and better. He's not quite out of the woods, but yeah. He's going to be just fine. :)

hp, it's related to complications from Crohn's. I'm sure once he's back in action he'll be able to explain it all much better than I could. I'm not 100% on the details. He has had cardiac events like this before - a couple years back, I was there for one. The paramedics told me a long time later that they "still talk about the 25-year-old with the heart attack." :\ Crohn's is no joke, y'all.

At any rate, thank you all for being so supportive. Letting you guys know how he's doing is the least I could do - he would and has done the same for me. (y)

Been an insane couple of weeks. Basically my heart stopped not once, but twice. :eek:

After a couple weeks in a couple of hospitals and many tests i'm finally back home.

Got a cool defibrillator that has 512mb of memory in it, and it can be upgraded wirelessly. I guess I'm part borg now.

Other than being incredibly sore from the surgery, I'm doing well. :)
