Fuckaroo. :(
Cameron scares me. He looks like he has stolen someone else's eyes and is still getting used to looking through them.

Clegg at least looked slightly humanoid.

I'm now watching last weeks C4 Alternative Election Night (hey, I have to wait for torrents!) and there the public voted for Joanna Lumley as PM. I agree.
Though Charlie Brooker wasn't on the list, otherwise I would've gone for him...

Not that I can vote in the UK anyway, but still.

that is the best description ever. i cant trust him at all but just hope clegg and his crew reign him in.

there was a great bit on sky news last week when cameron went to a maternity ward and met a woman who had just given birth to twin boys:

Cameron: and what are their names?
Mother: this one is david and this one is cameron
Cameron: thats great, really?
Mother : No.

hahaha

That woman deserves a medal.

I'm thinking about moving to the UK and becoming a citizen just so I can vote against Cameron in the next elections.
Or can I vote from here if I can prove that I'm British enough? I mean, Im listening to Radio flippin' 4 at the moment!

Yeah, that blew my mind. I've been trying to read the details of the deal from UK news sites. It's pretty interesting, but I don't completely understand how they make it stick day to day.

WTF is a Tory-LibDem coalition? How on earth does that work? I mean seriously, how?

I said a few months back that if Lib Dems get a sniff of power they'll take it - after he said he wouldn't prop up a government in the early early stages. Didn't expect it to be with tory though. He bent over but didn't spread his cheeks would be assessment.

But it seems to me, it'll be just like a labour government. Its what has been voted for, it'd be about my 4th choice of any sort of government I'd like but the reason we have a democracy is to get the guy with the most votes in - kinda.

But, we're doomed and the public are idiots.

Guy Incognito

its going to be a tricky time, every decision is going to be scrutinised and people are going to try and work out who actually made it and what the balance of power within the coalition is. i'm glad Vince cable has got a treasury job, cos he was the only fucker who knew it was all gonna meltdown ages ago and no bugger listened to him. he's got his head screwed on.

i think there will be another election but not until labour have got a new leader. If they give it to Ed Balls, they will never get back in, there is no way on this earth that the public would vote for them so we would have Prime Minister Balls. Thats how shallow we are.

Apparently the AV voting system is going to come in which would be good.

Whats confuses me is that in the unlikely event of this coalition working well then who do we vote for in 5 years cos we cant vote for both.

Its kind of amusing to see such chatter about hung parliaments and coalitions and all. I guess its because its rare for you guys, but its standard far across most of Europe.

As for Tories and the Libs together...well, let me tell you story...

In Ireland we have a coalition between Fianna Fail, who are basically the Tories of Ireland, they're nearly always in power and are generally right-wing capitalist, conservative scumbags, and the Greens, who used to be well, Greens, you know, hippy, environmentalist Greens.

When they went into coalition it was on the basis of "the Greens will keep Fianna Fail in check", and we were all kind of happy. The Irish nearly always vote FF in, so it was nice to have some lefties in there to keep a check on things.

Did they?

Did they fuck.

The Greens have bent over and taken it up the shitter and destroyed their party for a generation. Next time there is an election they will be lucky to survive as an entity. They've sat back and let FF bail out all their cronies in the construction and banking industries while we all go to shit.

They got a sniff of power and have been grasping on to it ever since. They could have pulled out and brought down the government just before they signed in a deeply unpopular bailout program for the banks, but they didn't. They supported it.

As the say "When you dance with the Devil, He doesn't change. He changes you."

Lib Dems be warned.

Pity, I quite like them.

As I've gotten older, I've found it harder and harder to fault capitalism. I mean, it's not perfect but it certainly isn't a bad thing.

I want Ed Miliband as Labour leader.

Still wouldn't vote for them but it seems about the best out of the bunch.

As I start typing this tho, his brother david came on announcing his intention to run.

Oh, and AV system is still not a proportional representation system.

Ireland have the single transferable vote system don't they? Seems about fairest out of the bunch although I know its not perfect.

And if you want change, anti-government pro-science pro-technology vote, join the green party. They do have some iffy policies still but I think they are getting their ship in order and still more progressive than the rest imo.

it looks like labour have gambled on it being a giant fuck up so that when they have regrouped they can sweep back in but tbh as a labour voter with lib dem leanings i hope coalition works

Aye, we have full PR. Works really well.

I still like the Greens generally, but I disagree with the Irish Greens central policy of being anti-Nuclear. Seems short-sighted to have as a central point of policy to be anti-a particular technology.

Ed Miliband was the only one mention a policy in the whole campaign from what I read.

I just don't get why all parties don't want full PR, makes me distrust them more when shying away from more democracy - we tend not to trust non-democratic places, so why trust them.

Yeah, nuclear is one of my issues with Green Party - its ideology, plenty of members like me are kinda ok with it. I an ideal world we wouldn't need it but decades of in-action means we do. They have such a chance to mop up the atheist pro-science crowd that could easily give them 50+ seats with the right message, they just need to get their shit together. And I think they will - eventually.

That joke was totally copy-wroted!

What annoys me most is that I am never able to use these kind of sentences, because they are always in English about English things and everyone around me is mostly like 'eh?'

Gouda cheese and Zaanse mayonaise are VERY Dutch.
Still, I'm not doing very well if those are the only Dutch-ish things I do.

Srsly, do any of you UK'ians have a spare room so I can live over there?

I don't know any dutch stereotypes apart from cycling everywhere and a liberal attitude to drugs (y)

Not a spare room anymore but you know if you (or anyone here) find yourself in Sheffield I can easily make space to put you up for a while. It'll probably be a blow up mattress though.

I have to say one thing to balance my previous point.

Fianna Fail are super corrupt, nothing that i've seen/read/heard suggests the Tories are anything like that. Ideologically they are similar(ish), but alot of the hatred towards FF is because they are completely corrupt.

Whilst I dislike Cameron and am fundamentally opposed to Conservative ideology the new cabinet is actually quite an agreeable and very able collection of people - for the most part. William Hague, Ken Clarke and Vince Cable are the kind of people who you want in government regardless of party politics. Osborne is not chancellor material, neither is Gove for Education.

if he were to be labour leader and then pm it would be a farce. PM visits troops in helman province for example. headline Balls to afghanistan. PM visits US president. Balls to Obama. Prime minister doesnt turn up for PMQ's. Goverment has no balls and so on
