I've had this in my personal email for a few days now.

If anyone would be interested in listening to the new album before it comes out tomorrow, here you go.

I dig it.

i was hoping for something more like thier earlier work. there's just way too many overdubs, layered production and things going on. i mean i like it but this isn't the black keys this is just another dan auerbach solo project.

where the fuck is the guitar! too many organs and keys take center stage. what the fuck.

dan you're a great guitarist. fuck off with the organs and synths.

it's good and very well written it just not the black keys.

Solid, if a bit of a disappointment.

Like Turd says, it's not really got any of what makes The Black Keys The Black Keys.

I just got my physical copy in the post, so no doubt I'll give it a few spins tonight and see if it hits me more than before.

i really like it. more my style of music.

i see what you mean by different than traditional black keys type stuff though. it'd be interesting to see them plug these tunes into their live shows.

i bet the live versions of these songs will be very much what i would expect from the black keys. very stripped down soulful, raucous and raw. i don't see how in the hell they could accurately play these songs live at all without a backing band unless they use pre taped shit and pipe it in(n)

i took attack and release for what it was. a good album. but not a black keys album. they along with danger mouse were ask to write some shit for ike turner then he died. so instead of letting the material they wrote hang out in purgatory they just recorded it themselves. it wasn't a black keys album though. this album has the same feeling.

and it has this modern r&b feel too it(n) fuck off with that shit! you're the black keys for christ sake!

that being said it's still a good album. i was just hoping for something more like rubber factory or magic potion. or atleast much more guitar oriented.

^Blame the rappers.

Personally, I lost interest after Magic Potion. I agree, they work best with the raw, stripped down to the bare essentials approach that they used to employ.

Same story with the White Stripes. I was fine with Jack introducing a little more piano, but once the marimbas and bagpipes started replacing the guitars at times, I gave up.

patrick carney's drumming is much more varied and layered as well

It's actually a very strong album altogether. I still can't get with Attack & Release, but the change in sound on this album is probably not something I'd consider a misstep. It's just different.

did you try dan's solo album?

mickill

No. And I actually did not realize he did a solo. I feel very out of the loop at the moment.
