Hello everyone. As most of you know, I am a newer fan of the Beasties...

How does it feel to buy a new, fresh, and hot Beastie Boys album on the day it hits the stores? (I'll exclude TMU, because that doesn't count for me.)

Do you get a rush? How does it feel?

The only one I bought on Day 1 of release (besides TMU) was TT5B. I don't know it wasn't really all that different then buying TMU to be honest. And it ended way too soon the first time I listened to it. Oh also I had to get it on my way to class so I only got to hear like 3 songs then go to class which was a major drag. I can see your point but I don't think it's as cool as you'd expect.

For the record I really like TT5B and have from my first listen so it's not like I feel this way because I think the album sucks or anything.

Feels Like: Losing your ear virginity! We got Hello Nasty the first day, and it was so good to hear new fresh Beasties after waiting 4 years (way too damn long). The beats on that album are way ahead of its time, see Hello Nasty Instrumentals. Also To The Five Boroughs was a well anticipated tasty treat. Some people hate these albums, but they just suckas who complain too much and dont have subwoofers. I like the instrumental stuff, but nothing compares to new Hip-Hop from the Boys.

I was a Freshman in high school when TT5B came out, my friend logan and I walked down to Newbury Comics after school(i work at that store now... strange to think) we grabbed it and went right up to the counter, they gave me a poster of the cover(which i now have framed in my living room) and then i walked to my grandparent. Didnt get to listen to it til i got home, but I loved it then and i still do.

I honestly dont remember what happened on the day i bought TMU all i know is that i was so happy and i got a sweet ass pint glass which i still have with it.

I always thought it was just the younger crowd who didn't appreciate TMU or any of the instrumentals. My 10 year old son who is a huge Beastie fan loves it though so what gives?
To only enjoy Beastie material with lyrics is like enjoying only books with pictures. Free your mind.

It sounds crazy, but the first thing I notice about new CD's is the smell.. The smell of whatever ink they used to print the covers..

I've bought a few first day releases, and since I drive a Pacer, and I don't have a CD player in the car, it's always a long ride home, then it's, Disc into the computer, Headphones on, the proverbial volume to 11, eyes closed, and 60+ minutes of absorbing the newness... Repeat that a few more times, then rip to MP3 and drop on the iPod... Then listening to and from work for the next week or so..

It is good...

the first bb album i was waiting for and got on the first day was Ill Communication. I cant remember anything about the actual transaction and therefore the effects it had on my mental state. It was too long ago.

TT5b for me and it was pretty exciting. I got into them at the end of the 90s, just after Hello Nasty came out. I remember the wait for a new album or material was a real struggle at my age!

Except for Ill Communication and To the 5 Boroughs, which sounded like I expected them to sound, you pretty much go "What the fuck? Where are they going with this one?"

Paul's Boutique was: "what the fuck is up with is this disco shit?"
Check your Head was: "what the fuck is up with this elevator music shit?"
Hello Nasty was: "why does Mike D sound different and what the fuck is a pan of cokenen?"

It sometimes took me months if not years to wrap my head around a new album. I used to fast forward through much Check Your Head to hear the rap tracks and hardcore tracks until I really started listening to that album. By the time Ill Comm came out I was digging most the instrumental stuff hard.

it was a sunny summer day, tuesday july 25th, 1989 (Paul's Boutique). i pulled up to the local strawberries to an empty parking lot. it did not open til 9am, but i was there at 8:30, goosebumps and could barely stand the anticipation. i was entering my senior year in high school and had someone cover my shift at the local general store. well worth losing the hours that day. the sick thing was, they released different colors of tapes, as opposed to the simple white or clear...so everyone was like "what color did you get?"....i miss the days where tuesdays actually meant something in hip-hop. i know, i get a lot of flack for being a grumpy old man, but truly, it was a different time then. technology/the internet is a fantastic thing, but it has ruined music.....i believe the release date changed many times for paul's boutique so i actually went to the store the friday before and confirmed they had it. that day was also a very special day. i could not concentrate that entire weekend. come to think of it, i dont think the beasties have ever come out with a record on the day determined initially. so i am not surprised for the delay of HSC, glad Yauch is getting better.
