Half-arsed mixtape idea

So, i think i mentioned before that i did something on another board where they have a "radio station" where people picked a letter of the alphabet and made a mixtape of songs and groups beginning with that letter (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=90171).

So....

Are you interested in doing something similar? Its open to suggestions on theme, format etc And it doesnt have to be liked produced on hiquality mix software, just a selection of tunes will do. There's a lot of you with some wide ranging tastes and it'd be intersting to hear. If you select yes, then answer these questions:

1) How long should the mix be?
2) What should the theme be? It doesnt have to be the alphabet if you can think of a better theme.
3) How are we going to do it? Whats the best way. The only thing i can think of is www.podomatic.com, it costs to have a radio station so if you know of any better ways of doing it.


If you select no, then why dont you switch off your computer and go out and do something less boring instead.

ok, apologies for vagueness i didnt want to get too bossy, looking for some ideas really/

Right then:

Mix length : No more than 2 hours

How you post it: Whatever you want to use to post your mix then cool as long as we can listen to it. I picked Podomatic because its the best one i know but if people use other shit then cool.

Theme : Still need some suggestions for this please? Not sure i want to settle on alphabet.
If it is alphabet then "The" doesnt count, and its songs or bands beginning with the letter. Oh, and no more than 2 tunes by same band.

If you want to cut tunes together in an hour using the latest production shizzle or you just want to make a playlist of tunes then thats up to you.

I cant think of anything else. Is that the kind of thing you were looking for?

Ok, I increased the votes to 6. Problem with cost tho for who ever does the mix has to pay $10 a month... Or do you mean, those who all do it pay for a yearly subscription say by putting the $99.90 in a pool and split it with a shared login (but then open to abuse maybe?) - like if 100 people sign up (they won't) it'd be 99c each and we'd average out nearly 2 a week.

Although. It shouldn't be that hard to host a storage for download of MP3 and have a streaming option to. I'd be ok to host but I wouldn't want to fall foul of any copyright laws right now or my ISP get pissed with me. hmmms.

I think I'm talking about something a little different than you.
We get ten people, throw their names in a hat, pick them out and create a draft order. Each round goes in reverse order.
In other words...

First round:
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

Second round
10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

Keeps everything even if you get stuck with the #10 pick, at least you get the #1 pick of rd. two.

We also do stuff like limiting the amount of songs that can be used from one band for everyone in the draft to 5 songs. Helps encourage diversity and prevents the big Radiohead guy from making an entire mix of nothing but Radiohead.
It also makes Radiohead songs that much more valuable because of the limit.



I'd do it if you came up with a better topic than alphabet.

Summer Music - I'm always looking for good summer music to play in my yard while enjoying a beverage, and this is the perfect time to do it.

The 00's music - Music officially released between January 2000, and December 2009. Any Decade will do really.

Acoustic music - self explanatory

Live music - self explanatory

^ As i said, not fixed on the alphabet as a theme but its an easy one to do then you dont have to bother with drafts, just pick a letter. however good theme suggestions rob, once we get enough takers, i'll put another list of themes up for a vote.
not sure about doing a draft cos not sure if its going to take off enough to do mixes. what does everyone else think.

seeing as no bugger has expressed a preference for a theme, i dont know.

Right, i'm going away for 2 weeks next weekend so could do with some time to get a few more interested.

I'll choose three theme choices from the ones above and whichever one you all post you prefer then we will have a theme.

I'm getting cracking on mine but if anyone wants to post theirs then go for it. Although rob makes a good point about draft picks i dont see the point yet. If we decide to another comp after this then maybe we do it in reverse order of who posts A to z comps. but i dont think there's anypoint worrying about that yet.

So to clarify

A to Z ( thats 26 tunes people!)
Song Titles only ( otherwise its a lot easier but slightly more limited at the same time)
No more than 2 songs by the same band/artist

Looking forward to hearing some mixtapes.
