An anecdote,if you will...a couple of years back A-Z was talking about how he never opens his door after 7pm...at the time I thought that a bit paranoid or anti-social or non-neighbourly...so…I like to think that between what I do for a living and the fact that I live downtown I’m used to the weirdness that is inherent to my setting or locale…most nothing shocks or rattles me…but Saturday night I was cooking a late meal, when the doorbell rang…so I answered and there was this dude standing on my stoop all bug eyed…

He say’s: “are you watching television?”
I say: “What?”
he repeats himself…
And I say “no I’m not”
He say’s: “because I was walking by your house and your television is talking about me”
So I now know something’s weird here and take the defensive…I ask him if he lives in the building and he say’s: “no,but please I beg you to tell me the name and channel of the show that speaks my name”
Ohhh fuck…so,having dealt with a lot of mental illness, I realize I have to appear firm, unthreatened but decisive…

So I say:”Look I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about,I think you’re mistaken or confused,please leave now”

To which, after taking a step back,he screams at me “I LIE NOT AND I WILL GIVE MY RIGHT ARM TO KNOW THE SPEAKER!”…then he turns around and walks off, muttering and pulling his hair…fucking yikes…so glad my girl wasn’t there and may have had answered the door by herself…truly creepy, rattled me quite properly…so,yes,if Uncle A-Z advises you not to open your door after seven take heed as I now will…

^true,true...I've alway's enjoyed the perk of living in a ground level suite with my own private entrance...but I see accessibility in a little different lite now,I guess...

It's probably safer but fear-based advice. Bad on my part.

I normally don't open my door for anybody because I don't know anybody around my area but I did one night at about 9:30pm and it was some guy who was supposedly a Con Edison rep and he wanted to talk about my service with ConEd.

I immediatly refused him. It just didn't seem right. One would think that the company would send their reps out during normal business hours and not at 9:30 at night.

My guess was that he was going to come in and scan what I have and break in when I'm gone.

Epilogue: On Sunday morning I had called my land lord to tell him about what had occurred…Last night when I got home there was a message from him telling me that the girl who lives downstairs had a similar incident with a guy matching the same description…He had knocked on her door asked her about her television and said he could hear “Prayers in Romanian coming from her house"…so my landlord has called everyone in the building with a heads up as well as calling the landlord of the property next door to make them aware as well…
