I grabbed the $6 digital version - managed one listen so far while cooking.

I'm liking it overall. I'm a music journalist or anything so can't give you a critical review. But its the type of album I would erm, cook to (although I'm not vegan). Sorry. But yes - $6 well spent! Everyone buy it!

Don't take this the wrong way, but what makes you think people want to buy your music at this stage?

Consider giving it away to garner more of a reputation first. Especially when selling it to people you don't know over the internet.

$6 though dude. He has the excellent Do You Even Know? on YouTube, its worth a punt if you just even like that. And when they are selling out tours globally you can say "I was there maaaan, at the start..." and then say "before they sold out" and "I wouldn't pay for one of their albums again as all the money goes to Sony". Like we do now with Rage.

What usually leads me to believe that people want to buy our music is when they give us cash in exchange for our music with no discernible coercion. It took us a lot of money to record this music. We tried telling the studio owner that he was not very well established and what makes him think that a band like ours would want to pay for him to record us... *sigh* but he didn't go for it and that has pushed us into the unfortunate position of having to ask people if they could spare .50 to .70 cents US per song or $6 for the whole shot.

We put up as many freebies and extras on our site as we can , but considering that I haven't had gas service in my house for a year and am 5 months behind on my electric bill, I really am beyond the point of feeling any shame for asking people to buy our music.

You took it the wrong way. In case you thought i was singling your act out when saying you shouldn't charge, i wasn't. I take that stance on all bands that are just starting out.

And as for the studio thing, that's a stupid thing to say. That's his or her livelihood, a business, where as [i assume] this is not yours. A studio provides a service rather than a product which, as professionals, is always going to be maintained at a certain level. Personally, i like bands to earn the right to have me buy their music. Although i do respect the fact you paid for quality audio recordings rather than attempting to sell scrappy demo's.

We're all stuck in this crap-ass game called capitalism. As such, we have expenses. Bands, in particular, have expenses (as I'm sure you know). So a band that wants to stick around for any length of time should probably figure out a strategy to cover those expenses (assuming that they don't have an independently wealthy band mate, sponsor, label or some such).

A lot of bands around here go the route of finding a bunch of paying gigs. A reasonably respectable route. But we end up preferring to play for lots of good causes and benefits and the like. Also there is a super saturation of quality bands willing to play for free in our region. So we decided to generate our band income at the merch table. We did pretty well on t-shirts and stickers and posters and the like, but we are doing WAY better now that we have a CD to sell. Good for us.

Because we have started to have fans outside of Buffalo I looked into the most convenient way they could get our CD without having to come all the way here for a show.

THEN because I've spent a jillion hours on this place in the past and made several dozen friends, I figured folks would not mind if I posted a link to it here... and maybe one or two people would even give it a go (Can't hurt to try right?). And low and behold, one person did give it a go. So the story has a happy ending for everyone, eh?

My review:

I was very impressed with how polished the record is. I'm by no means a student of music, but I know what I like, and for the most part, I liked this. I was expecting some type of long winded hippie jam shit, but I was pleasantly surprised by the BTV virtuosity.

As you can probably tell, I don't really get down with the hippie jam stuff. My attention span is too short. I have friends that are all about Moe., Dark Star, Phish and that type of shit, but I could never really get into it. I hear some of that in your music, but I also hear a good amount of fun, sincere, and cognitive shit that interested me.

02 Rough - Like the female mc, love the crickets
03 All Winners - like the back & forth, the soulfulness, the horns
06 Class War - Like the beat changes, but I really, really wanted to hear you roar from your soul. I wanted to hear you let loose like Zach De La Rocha.

Silence is my favorite song on the disk. I love the meandering style and the way it fits with the lyrics, which were superb. I would like to use this song in my new movie. I was actually listening to "Silence" while I was writing a scene that it fits perfectly. It inspired my writing.

I'm sorry it took so long to get you a review. I've been ultra busy.
Thanks again for sending me the CD, I was very impressed. Let me know when you guys make it to Chicago. I would love to check out a live show.

Create with passion and you'll be successful in many ways.

I'm loving Buffalove btw.

Yeah, Buffalove (http://bloodthirstyvegans.bandcamp.com/track/buffalove) is a definite favorite of mine. It and the song after it are really fun to listen to together (for me at least). We have a new version of Buffalove that we play live that is much slower so that the words are a lot easier to hear. Fun to switch it up.

Jimmy, thanks so much for the review. I don't think we have the attention span to do Jam Bandy stuff either.

I don't think that I --or anyone other than Zack De La Rocha-- has the ability to cut loose like Zack De La Rocha.

I will ask Janna if she minds you using Silence. I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

You can listen to the whole thing right there on Bandcamp.

If you really feel like it's THAT important to start disbursing it for free, you can get a copy of audacity for free and just record it to mp3 while you listen.
