dear lord. i mean i was expecting it to be bad, but it was SO bad that i'm honestly confused about how such a bad thing could get made. my best theory is that he was trying to make a softcore porn but the spice channel rejected him because there wasn't quite enough sex in it. and i've seen porns with better writing/acting than that movie so...i don't know, that's the only explanation that makes sense in my mind.

people who have seen the room, let's post about the room about how hilariously bad it is

people who haven't seen the room, go watch it and come in here and post about it. here is a clip to help explain how terrible this movie is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ4KzClb1C4 . that's a pretty terrible scene even out of context but the best thing is that there is no context for it. there is literally no reference to anyone hitting anybody until that scene

it's an astounding piece of cinema. it apparently cost $7 million

Flower Shop Scene ftw.

Here's my theory on Wiseau. He has these black and white ideals of what is "good" and "bad" and "sexy". Roses = love/sex. Drinking one drink makes you drunk. Finishing a whole bottle of vodka means you're drunk and silly so you put a tie around your head. Doing "drugs" is BAD, and you will get in trouble with a big bad drug dealer (Chris F.). Men play football. Chocolate = love.

The whole thing is so ridiculous and amazing. Buy the DVD and watch the extras. So good.

seriously you can pick any random scene off youtube and rest assured that the entire movie is as bad as that scene, it's just so...consistent. the scenes with tommy wiseau are obviously much sillier but the other "actors" aren't really any better

I've seen clips of it and it made me want to eat my own eyeballs.
It's not a film that's 'so bad it's good'. No, it's so bad, it's fucking terrible.

you are watching it the wrong way (i'm guessing alone and/or sober)

Both of those things are correct. Sadly. :(

it's definitely a movie you need to watch with friends, otherwise you're just laughing and yelling at the screen by yourself and it's weird

i'm pretty convinced that the dude legitimately thought he was making a great movie. if you want an insight into the mind of a person who is making a terrible movie but thinks he's making an excellent movie, check out "american movie" which i believe is available on netflix's instant watch. it has absolutely zilch to do with the room in a literal sense but it is a brilliant documentary about a guy whose passion wholly makes up for his lack of talent

coming back to the room though, the annoying thing is that despite being responsible for an objectively awful awful awful movie, tommy wiseau is probably more famous and successful than anyone on this forum could ever hope to be

edit: except for possibly dandyfop who i hear is coming up in the world

Woah.

Could you imagine trying to spoof that. You'd be stuck. The first time ever the National Lampoons would be stuck for words or action as they can make anything look bad.

I'm betting he lifted that from Citizen Kane. (Which also was pretty clumsy but not THAT bad.)

Wow, these clips are bad. This is probably a bit like some of the melodrama I was writing between fifth and eight grades. How my teachers read that stuff is amazing to me.

He's got a weird, preening "manly" thing going on right next to some pretty uninhibited homo-something. (I'd say "homoerotic" if there was anything remotely erotic about it. Instead, it's just sad.)

Those who have watched it -- what is the significance of the title? Is this the room that got wrecked?

Supposedly he now embraces the movie as a comedy, but it sure doesn't look intentional to me.

i'm not sure why the movie's called "the room" but most of it does take place in one room. i don't think there's any symbolism behind it i just think he was lazy

From Wikipedia:

The original script was actually much longer than the shooting script and contained numerous wordy monologues and more irrelevant information.[6] The script was heavily edited on set by the script supervisor and the actors.[6] One anonymous cast member said that the script contained "stuff that was just unsayable. I know it's hard to imagine there was stuff that was worse. But there was."[6]

ahaha. it does kind of feel like parts of the movie were just randomly cut with no rhyme or reason. scenes do not flow from one to the other at all. one moment it's like "i don't love johnny anymore" and then in the next johnny is playing football in tuxedos with his friends

I assumed he was some rich Eastern european dude, but no -- he pulled the money together. There's truly something to be said for unconcious incompetence.

That being said, the dialouge isn't that much worse than the shooting script for Sex lies and videotape. It was really ham fisted but the actors worked it out and put Soderbergh on the map. So who knows?

Kinda like the Shamwow asswipe who blew a ton of money on making a shitty movie. I think anyway. Why am I thinking that?

I don't know if I could handle that movie, it looks pretty intense. I should still probably watch it though.

I started watching this last night: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235280/

Four perky, clueless cheerleaders from the Happy Valley High Hamsters are mistakenly blamed by the meddling Church Ladies for the invasion of the "Internet smut" into their children's bedrooms. The Church Ladies hire Stephen, a sexually ambiguous teacher from the local Parochial Reform School, to teach the cheerleaders a lesson. But the cheerleaders have more than Stephen to worry about...lurking in the shadows is Mr. X, an evil mastermind who is using the cheerleaders as guinea pigs to test his Internet Zombie Domination software!

it's ridiculous! but I LOL'd a lot before I fell asleep.

its so bizarre that he refuses to say where he's really from and insists he's american..

that's how he knew to put a football being tossed around in every scene. he speaks our language

I love The Room. We got a bunch of people together and we suffered through it. It was a blast.

And then we watched it with the RiffTrax and laughed so hard I almost threw up.

Oh and I'm sure the drinking games we came up with would give you alcohol poisoning within 15 mins.

I think he really is from one of those inbred cajun families in louisiana, he has fetal alcohol syndrome or something.
