Apple has suffered another embarrassment. A security breach has exposed iPad owners including dozens of CEOs, military officials, and top politicians. They—and every other buyer of the wireless-enabled tablet—could be vulnerable to spam marketing and malicious hacking.

The thing is. Apple have never been immune, they might have fewer security holes, yes - but people don't write malicious for apple. One because of its small user base (although growing) and two because Apple keep a such a tight grip on software and hardware its hard to get anything pass.

With a PC you aren't limited to the software you can get - anyone can write and release something which gives diversity to develop but opens up a road for people to do evil.

Casing point is Adobe. Apple refuse to use Flash, which people either side of the argument bitch, moan and congratulate each other about. Personally I think its a wrong choice to refuse it but Adobe have such a bad record on opening up security vulnerabilities it cements Apple's point every time there is a breach. HTML5 is better now tho so they get round it but originally, especially for their smaller devices like iphone it put them at a technological disadvantage. But its hardly effected them really.

It was an AT&T breach...

and who said Apple was immune?

As for 'shove it', Apple-bashers are far more annoying than Apple fanboys...you go out of your way to express annoyance at a company/product. Just dont use it.

I have a top spec Dell PC and 1 year old iMac as well as an iPhone.

The iPhone is impressive, but iMacs etc are overrated. I have far more problems with my macs at home and work than I do with my PC.

Also, if you know how to fuck about with PCs then you can get much more out of them. They have limitless potential.

I find that most people who bash PCs really never understood them and prefer the hand-holding approach that Apple provide.

its like someone who knows how to cook but just prefers not to, they just want to sit down and eat?

i knew my way around a pc and i know what you mean, but i love how shit just works on apple. at least thats been my experience

i don't want to think about all the shit that pc's force you to

I find that most people who bash PCs really never understood them and prefer the hand-holding approach that Apple provide.

For me its two fold:
One I think OS X is a much better operating system than Windows. I was a Windows user for well over a decade, but OS X is much better, in almost every aspect that is important to me.

I don't see what the hand holding is though?

Secondly, hardware build. Most PC's are weird, plasticy, shaky, ugly pieces of shit. Aesthetics, tactile feel, sturdiness..are important. They make a computer more usable. There is empirical studies that show the aesthetics of an interface make it more usable.

In the end, they are just computers. I don't particularly care about Apple as a company, I just think they currently make better personal computers.

What makes me laugh though is the Apple bashers who make these snide comments about Apple users being elitist when its THEY who talk WAY more about other peoples computers than Apple users. I see way more unprovoked Apple-bashing comments then I do PC-bashing from Apple users. People have a pop at iPhone/users loads, I dont see iPhone users going "snort! look at that guys Nokia and its locked down OS!"

One of them will inevitably buy the other.

honestly I enjoy mac/apple just like the next apple user (design student - been around them for years)

sad to say though I have yet to decide if I want to drop a chunk of change on
one

I just find it funny because security is one of the biggest arguments mac/apple users against pc/ms users

oh and this is probably karma for the Apple suicides and stormtroopers busting in a guy's door over a phone

But it was a breach of AT&T's website...

agreed, I've done tons of customization/modification/optimization of my pc - it is definitely more "me" than any mac users machine is. Hell, Linux has more user adaptability.

my girlfriend's brother is a "geeky" dude and he hasn't done shit on his mac except play WOW - awesome dude.

that is one of my complaints about mac - the design raises the price 200 fold- we all know deep inside the machine it's just another pc. My Asus machine has comprable specs to most imacs and cost a 1/4 the price - it has a good looking case and the hardware is undeniably interchangable - with an imac you can do what?

p.s.

my girlfriend's brothers top of the line imac blew out in a year. He had to drop some bucks to repair it as well. tsk tsk

You know what the web needs? Another Mac Vs. PC thread.

I've never thought about buying a MAC but it seems pretty easy to make a Hackintosh which I have thought about doing for shits and giggles but never bothered.

On that note, I've been pricing up a new desktop but even using Dell and Alienware and other custom sites and I can't get exactly what I want on them all. And I have a big budget (up to £900). But I could build my own PC again cheaper...

...The box I have is from 2004 and I've replaced everything in it except the mobo and the actual case. PSU, DVD Drive are all good and I have the 2nd HDD I want already in a caddy. Recently - as in since about 2006 I've told any who has asked me about building their own not to bother as complete systems are so cheap these days as well the comfort if one thing goes wrong, you don't have to diagnose yourself and it all goes back to one place if there is any probs. So is it still worth building your own PC? I probably could get exactly what I want for £600 and it'd better than the £900.

Actually just writing that has persuaded me to build me own. Thanks for your help.

Edit: Actually its not all that much cheaper. Oh.
