1. HOW the hell can showing porn to an 18 year old woman be a FELONY where you can get up to 5 years in jail?? Seriously WTF?

2. Why does it cost $10,000 to run for Senate anyway? No wonder everyone in the Senate is a millionaire, you can't even run in the primaries without 10k.

This whole scenario is wierd, in SC no less.
I also had no idea you had to pay $10k to run for Senate but from what I have read you actually pay that to the party you afilliate with. So I am still not sure whether it only costs $10k to run as a Democrat or if it is the same for all parties. Anyone have any more insight on that?

I know it sounds horrible on it's face, but in reality if you can't figure out a way to come up with 10large, you probably shouldn't be in a position where you have input over million$ of a state's budget.

actually 10k does not seem like that much for the us senate.

Alex,

1. If I had 10k I would use it to buy canned beans and a bicycle.

2. When I first saw this thread I swear I thought you meant Al Green, i.e. like, "Let's Get Together"....then I researched your thread a bit further.

3. Porn is not illegal to MAKE if you are 18, so watching it should probably not be illegal either.

4. It's been awhile since I've been here on this forum, but I feel like a new woman posting on yo thread, Alex.
Peace!

P.S. Doesn't it feel a bit stifling to know those with "above average" means are the only ones who have a chance at running for senate in our "free" society? Black beans in a tin are my fave, by the way.

i'd be curious to know the nature of the porn charge - did the woman he was showing it to WANT to see it?

still, 5 years seems like it would be a bit much, it's not like he groped anyone

That's what I was thinking...showing?, forcing?, groping?.........All different things really.... But where does the law start and common sense begin? I think any sane person could say it's ridiculous.

i still think it depends on the facts, though (which, i'll say right now, i don't have so i'm not saying anything about alvin greene specifically because i don't know anything about him). if we're just talking about two adults looking at porn, sure, that's stupid. but if it's a situation where, say, two strangers are at a public library and a guy leans over to the girl next to him and says "hey look at this" and SURPRISE it's rape fetish porn or something, that probably ought to be punished somehow

5 years in prison and a felony record still seems harsh though. maybe that's reserved for serial offenders, or maybe it's just a crazy law, i haven't looked into it

Nah it was kinda bad, he was in college library and turned the screen to some girl, and he was like "hey you wanna see this? You like what you see?" And instead of having a good time about it and inviting him back to her room to finish him off, she went and told authorities.... bitch.

Well, my goodness.
I guess the guy just says the first thing off the top of his head, doesn't he? But is that worse than spinning your answer into a web of double-talk?
To be honest, he's kinda sounding a bit off his chair...although I might be a bit off myself. However, I am hoping his humor just SEEMS dry due to the source.......punching Grouchy Smurf?!? Satin green tie? Making action figures probably WOULD bring jobs (they would just be in China).
Something seems askew.
Either way...If he seriously is facing 5 years for that "criminal obscenity" charge it does seem like overkill. Especially considering armed rapists and child killer/molesters often are sentenced to or even serve less time.

^^^^^^
Well, more often than I'd like to see!!!!
Even just in my own personal experience- my friend's ex and her new boyfriend tortured and murdered my buddy's 18 month old daughter. She did 4 and that lame prick was sentenced to 6 and only served 5. Maybe that's not the norm, but I see a lot of non-justice going on..... much more than one would expect.(n)
