i remember when they had flashbacks back when i use to watch the show(over ten years ago). homer had long hair and a denim jacket. and marge had her hair down and wore like a baseball tee. and it was obvious with the styling and such that it was suppose to be the late 70's early 80's.

Yeah, I saw 10 minutes of that episode recently. Awful, awful stuff.

The Simpsons is a satirical show, it needs to keep moving the timeline to work. How could a 10 year old Bart have been born in the early 80s? Stop moaning and try to keep up you miserable old fucks.

It must be tough to write for a show that's been on for 20 years but no one ever ages. Today's adult Homer with the three kids was at Lolla with Smashing Pumpkins wasn't he? They really shouldn't do flashbacks that evoke a past era anymore.

dang, this thread got angrier responses than i would expect!

i understand that to explore contemporary themes, they'd have to keep up...doesn't mean seeing homer and marge with a different past isn't slightly jarring. i mean, it changes how i think of them as far as who they are as characters, and what their motivations are....homer influencing kurt cobain? dumb, homer isn't supposed to be cool, he's a doof!

bah! it's not like i was upset, just weirded me out man

Had the characters aged as normal people, Bart would be in his early 30s, Lisa in her late 20s, Maggie in her early 20s, and Marge and Homer in their late 50s.

There is a direct correlation between the shows quality taking a nosedive and the death of Phil Hartman.
