View Full Version : The 90s
Man, things was so much better then.
I dunno if I am getting old but I am really missing the 90s. Music, movies, attitudes were so much better.
We had Blur, Sleeper, Dubstar, Sneeker Pimps, Beautiful South, Housemartins, NOFX, Rancid, Bluetones, Beastie Boys, The Big Lewbowski, Good Tarantino films, Goodfellas, The Matrix, Fight Club, Very few had heard of the interweb, gaming was still nerdy, only 4 channels on TV, cars where smaller, we had a tory government to fight against and the optimism of a labour government that will change it all, we was all gonna meet up in the year 2000 at 2 o'clock by the fountain down the road. Porn was relatively difficult to get hold of and thus sex was more exciting.
Yes, I want the 90s back.

as far as I can tell, the 90s are back. I've been to a few parties and shows in the last few months that made me question the idea of space and time, because I'm pretty sure I was transported back to 1994.

I love the 90's. I first became a fan of LIVE and have amazing memories from their shows and music releases. Bush was also great. I was a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan and remember meeting them at Soundwaves here in Houston and camping out to be first in line. Cracker, Better than Ezra, Cherrybomb Poppin Daddies, Blues Traveler and my god Everclear I was so obsessed with for a long long time. So many good bands from that era for sure! (y)

I remember going to a rock show at the County Fairgrounds in the 90's and the bands were TAD, The Charlatans, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth and then closed with the Beastie Boys.
I remember driving home thinking to myself, that was probably one of the finest shows I will ever attend in my life. And I was right.

People were saying the same thing about the 80's ten years ago. And the 70's a decade before that. It's called nostalgia.

i wouldn't say the 90's were any more special than now, if at all only because i was 16 in 1990 and therefore it was the start of great adventures. I'm trying to avoid nostalgia or i might feel old and shit.

- I miss waking up every wednesday and friday and watching the 2 hours of MTV's Alternative Nation I taped during the night, before I went off to school.
- I miss reading (music) magazines that didn't completely suck. I used to love reading Select and a Dutch magazine called Samsonic. That last one was seriously the coolest musicmag I've ever read. It wasn't pretentious at all, it was fun. They did a fax-multiple choice interview every week with some hugely famous person and had cool features on new music vids and cool new artists that no other mag wrote about. It was a bit like 6music in magazine form.
It was pulled out of the shops after years, because they decided the title was a hidden advertisement for Samson tobacco. :(
That's pretty much it. All I miss from the 90's is discovering new music and feeling very very very excited about it. The excitement's kinda gone now.

The 90's were prosperous, they had a definite darkness to them but overall the economy was rockin'.
It seems like money was flowing pretty damn good in the 90's. Here in Seattle we had a nice sendoff to the 90's with the WTO riots in 1999.
Oh yeah, the riots. Poll Tax, race LA riots, Football...
How could I forget the riots!?!
I was making some1 a compilation who is 30 this month of 30 songs in the 30 years, didn't help my nostalgia

Nobody with any taste who lived through the 80s would have ever said that. And when people talk about the 70s, they're really talking about '69-75.
The funny thing for me is that I've basically forgotten that the 2000s happened.
You know what else the 90s had?

 I wasn't aware of boy bands until 2000 though. (Also I liked Titanic :p)

and a lot of white-wash denim.
Titanic was 1912.
Boy bands started with the monkees in the 60s
The Apartheid ended in the 90s. That previous 50 years was to blame for that.
Go 90s!

See that's why i think i'm not feeling the 90's nostalgia, my best years of new music discovery were just before then, late 80's with Snub tv and listening to John Peel in bed every night. And i'm on it again now, have rediscovered that passion for new music again. For me the 90's weren't so much about music because i was mostly travelling, but my love for BB's does stem from then, so that bit is special.
Allthough......i did have a great, amazing time and i do look back and miss being so young and fearless and free and all that, but i'm hardly done yet;)
The 90's were retarded. Well for the most of it.

i just re-read this first post and have some comments:
Dubstar, one half arsed St Etienne rip off single.
Sleeper, please.. i only liked her singing when she wrote books. i.e she couldnt sing, she was quite tasty though
The housemartins formed and split up in the 80's
I was drunk ok. Still, I liked sleeper and dubstar. Housemartins, yeah I know they was 80s.
