Greed is sneaky little devil, you know, comes right up from behind and mugs oneself now and again…I just had a performance review last week, for my 1st quarter and wasn’t really expecting a significant raise if any at all…so I ended up with a 3.5% increase to be followed by another 2.5% in January…now a few days have passed and I WANT MORE…how is it that I would have been fine with no increase until the new year but now somehow I’m unhappy…illogical,yes?...I think it truly illustrates what the Buddha said in that “desire is the root of all suffering”…I’m all bothered about it…does this happen to you?

As time has gone on I've steadily earnt less per year since peaking in about 2003. Probably increased in happiness to since. But so many factors effect both.

i purposely never asked friends who worked in the same field what they were making for the longest time.

i knew that i made a sufficient amount for myself, and was fairly content about it. i could pay all my bills, have the fun i wanted and still manage to pocket a sliver away into the savings.

after working with the same company (this being my first real job) for approximately 2 years and 3 months, i received my first raise. the oddest part about all of this was i was not told about it, and it took 3 or 4 pays to clear before i realized the rate wasn't the same.

now that i've gotten this taste, i made the mistake of asking 2 people their rates. one whom has the same qualifications, but a years less experience. the other has a bit more experience, but without the degree falls into the same category i do for my current project.

needless to say that they both make roughly $2.50 an hour more than i do, and it sort of irks me but i don't know what to do about it.

Do whatever % work less per hour than they get paid more than you.

Its the only way to get your deserved raise.

I think.

But seriously, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Its the wrong time to ask for more money atm, I don't think many businesses are cash rich again yet, cutting workers and their pay while getting everyone else to work harder is the best way to survive/make money in a marketplace with little jobs to fall in and out of.

You want it all.
But you can't have it.

Funny, I was thinking about this the other day.
I never worried about money before I came to america. Shit, in Australia, I was on the dole and had NO MONEY and it didnt bother me at all.
Financially, I do ok. I'm not rich by any means, but I have a steady income for not that much work. There's times when I get pangs of resentment that I perhaps dont make as much money as my peers, or other people in this same field of work. And the feeling that people would respect me more if I earned more.
I do have almost 15k saved, but that's only because I'm very good with my money and spend very little. I always wish that I earned more so I wouldnt have to be so frugal and could buy anything I wanted without having to even consider it. But then I think, in reality, I could probably buy a nice thing here or there and it wouldnt make that much of a dent in my savings.

I am guiltymyself, but ....

just got back from vacation, my girl was treated like royalty and we did everything she wanted.

As we were driving home, she wanted to make a stop along the river and play, and I said, vaction is over I got to go to work today, no time to stop..

So she started crying like the wourld was going to end

Dont you remember all the shit we did over the past 4 days?

It is never enough.

I tell my girl, learn to be happy with what you have or you will never be happy..........
