Demo's out. Anyone tried it? Thoughts?

The game sounds pretty amazing, waiting for the download to finish now.

Even most Mob flicks don't have such an epic orchestra.

I'm playing now. no faults with it yet. the hand to hand combat is great, so is the shooting and cover system. all round impressive physics and handling, including cars.

Well excited for this

I found myself shooting at pillars with a shotgun just to expose the metal wires.

The first Mafia is one of my all time favourites, I've been waiting for the sequal for eons...

The only doubt I have is what platform to get it for: PS3, 360 or PC.

Seeing as my laptop has a puny 9600GT I might go for the console version and I reckon it's going to be the 360 version as most multi platform games kinda suck on PS3.

I'll wait for the reviews.

Which version are you lot getting?

Ooh, ooh!

I'm going away tonight, but downloading this will be my priority on my return on Monday! (y)(y)(y)

It's such a great game. i just love the realism of the physics. and the fact that the driving doesn't ruin the game like other mafia-based sandbox games.

Getting it on 360.

The PS3 demo sucked. So much slow down and screen tearing. The xbox one is only marginally better.

I didn't enjoy it one bit :-(

I had none of that :s

i had a bit of slowdown on the xbox demo but nothing game ruining.

it seemed cool and i liked all the little details like how you can go into diners and bars and order hamburgers and whiskey and stuff. i'm curious to see what'll be on all the radio stations and stuff too. i wish there were more than three stations though

one thing that dismayed me a little though was the return of speed limits. that was one of the most annoying things about mafia 1, i hope it isn't too annoying in this game as well.

i'm curious to see how it'll distinguish itself from GTA clones, if there will be more to do in the city than drive from mission to mission and buy new clothes. it's a mafia game, it'd be cool if it pulled a page from the godfather games and let you extort business and run your own illegal things and stuff. the main problem with the godfather games is that they weren't very fun to play but the open-world stuff did have some cool ideas, so i'd like to see them implemented in a game that doesn't suck too much.

Word up. rackets were the main part fo godfather but it'd be nice to see them on a larger scale. unfortunately though, i doubt they'll be included. i think we'd have heard about it by now, what with it coming out soon.

It's cool how you can intereact with loads of things too. i did notice that when you use the handbrake on a car, your hand doesnt actually move off the wheel.

I'd love to see some cool side stuff included anyway rather than just MISSIONMISSIONMISSION

yeah i'm just wishful thinking basically.

still, gta is fun, so a good clone isn't a bad thing exactly

i meant smaller scale. WHOOPS LMAO

they'd do well to incorporate some ellements of GTA, and i think they have with the eating etc. it replinishes stamina and stuff apparantly.

i might play through the first one cause i don't really remember it.

like i saids, the shooting and fightin and driving is all pretty fun so the game cant really go too far wrong.

To me one of the things that set the first Mafia really apart from any other game were the traffic laws.

I loved the thrill of speeding when it was nescessary and constantly looking out for the police. It gave the game a sense of realism. Admittedly it was a pain in the ass at times but it gave the driving an extra dimension.

it was unique, yeah, but my issue with it was that so much of the game was just hauling your ass across the city to travel to the next mission start point, so when you combined all the obligatory traveling with the traffic laws that required you to do the whole thing at 40 mph, it got really tedious.

from what little i've played of the demo so far though, it seems to be less annoying here; there's a mini-map which tells you when a cop is near, so you can just click the speed controller on when you have to. plus if a cop does start chasing you, it doesn't seem very hard to lose them at lower levels, though to be honest i haven't really figured out how the wanted system works yet.

My biggest gripe wasn't as much the speeding as the lack of speed in the beginning of the game. There was this one tunnel near the boss' restaurant where you simply wouldn't make it up the hill if you had a slow car that had taken some damage.

I occasionally yearned for the traffic law system while playing GTA. The only way that you get in trouble in GTA is when you run over someone in front of a cop or if you hit a cop (car). That makes the driving very unrealistic. Fun, but unrealistic.

In Mafia you'd even get a ticket if a cop spots a fender bender. That makes for a whole different type of driving :)

I am highly impressed. It's got everything the original had except it's well acted too. The graphics and general look and feel of the game are exceptional. There are so many little details - did anybody else notice the magazine in Vito's house? The first of 50 pin-ups to collect - very stylish! Also... try shooting a store owner then going back to the scene of the crime. Swish!

Can't wait for this to come out now. Sit up and take notice, Rockstar - this is how you design a game that not only looks good but runs perfectly. It makes GTAIV rightly look like the boring piece of shoddily manufactured shit that it is.

one feature i read about recently is that the game takes place over a span of several decades, and as time advances, so do the type of cars you drive and the music you hear on the radio. it's like goodfellas: the game

i also read somewhere that joe (the fat guy in the hawaiian shirt) is meant to be based of joe pesci's character in that but i didn't get that impression at all from the demo

I don't see Joe Pesci in him at all (nothing sexual about that remark btw).

As for the different decades, this is true. The 40s is set in the snowy great depression, and the 50s is all about cigar smokin' and condo ownin'. Judging from the official trailer, the demo mission actually takes part in the 40s era rather than the 50s as shown.

There are different pre-order bonuses too, (suits and cars, etc). There's a mafia 'made man' pack, a WW2 pack, a 50s greaser pack and a Vegas pack. I plumped for the Vegas one myself - I gots to get me a virtual Citroen DS to roll around Empire Bay in.

Not long til this comes out now. havn't played the demo recently but it should be good.

I get paid on it's release day, too. (y)
