My Dinner With Andre

I just watched this 1981 movie on youtube. It's a very well written movie that is just two guys eating dinner and talking in NYC. Full of ideas that pretty much still resonate today.

I tried watching it when I was about 20 and thought it was really pretentious. Not the idea of the film, but the discussion itself. This from a guy who loved INTERIORS lol. I should try it again.

The most mileage I got out of it was in WAITING FOR GUFFMAN -- the MY DINNER WITH ANDRE action figures. :D

I know the film seems dated and long on intellectual loftiness, plus it's two old guys eating dinner. Yet this is social skills at a level unknown to millions of internet iPhone drones who inhabit the streets and speak cliched scripted statements like "wassup" gangsta lol.

This is ideas, grand ideas and perceptions of society that never get discussed in an honest way, most films do not approach smart today. It's bursting with insights and how life is perceived, when Wally drives home past all the shops he remembers items he had purchased in them and his Dad taking him to these stores, he was realizing his life and it's fragility and speed.

It's less gheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey than one would think.

Of course those pretty rainbow unicorn people in avatar weren't gay. They were just pretty and not very good conversationalists who like to primp and dance together.
