where do i start? does anybody feel like our time is passing us by?
i feel like the world is spinning out of control so quickly that none of us can grasp hold and slow it down...days seem to spin faster and faster each one. we've got americans everywhere that doesn't want us and not here, home, where we do want us...why do we think that the western world needs to hold onto the rest of the planet just for 'cheap' fuel? music doesn't mean anything...it used to. music used to inspire a feeling of fight and revolution, but where are our ramones? where is our dead? who will be the next mama's and papa's? will we ever hear the sonic blanket that is tool again? how about the fresh energy of the fugees? what will wake us all up?
i'm certainly not old, but in my mid thirties i feel like i've lost my will to fight. i've become what i always fought against...i'm just a producer. how do i keep producing enough to ensure that my salary continues to grow at a shitty miniscule pace? what is the cola these days? 2%? mabye we should be 'happy' to have the job that doesn't move us and take a pay cut...the world's economy is in the tank...we've gotta be happy to have something coming in. lord knows, we all need that almighty dollar, euro, or whatever we call the paper embodiement of wealth that we need to enjoy a roof, a meal, a drink, or some groovy tunes.
i've fought my way into an industry. i work. 12-14 hours a day. 5 or 6 days a week. weekends? no way. this is no way to live...i'm losing my friends because they have 'normal' day jobs and i don't. how can this be the only way to make it? i spent a quick 6 weeks unemployed this year. humbling. those of us that have done it for months or years...god, i can only imagine. something has to change for us all.
where is our john lennon? where is our JFK? Who will rage with us? where is our anger? will we find another impetus for change? are there any issues by which a generation can pull themselves together behind? will we ever come to that point where we as a generation put our personal needs and wants to the side and embrace a larger scale issue or cause that will create our generation's pearl harbor, gettysburg address, challenger disaster, or 9/11? we must have something to rally together around.
music is that encompassing factor. music must join a global generation. something must be out there to give us a sense of a generation that needs us. not just as numbers, but as individuals with ideas and opinions that will influence others. in a good way. for betterment. we can't keep thinking of ourselves. who gives a fuck what you tweet? facebook is not your life, or anyone's for that matter. it doesn't matter. what does is how we treat each other. how we treat the rock we call home. how we treat those around us-those with more and those with less. they are no better or worse than any of us. we've got to have something that we can get behind and support...it doesn't have to be a war or a legal decision, it can be something as simple as a bumper sticker i saw the other day.
LOVE WINS.
that's all it said.
