I am sure there has been, but to me it seems they are so close it's never something that can't be worked out. ;) Judging from body language and their interactions it seems to me MCA would go out of his way to avoid confrontation he he. :o

There was a well documented falling out after the LTI world tour in '87. The Yaucher started (or joined) the band Brooklyn right around that time. Not 100% sure what the other guys did. I think thats when Adrock went Hollywood.

^ Yeah, that's the only time in the band's history where they were *really* close to breaking up. They had spent SO much time with each other over a two year period that they had grown sick of each other, sick of touring, sick of the music, sick of everything. So, they went and did their own thing. Yauch had Brooklyn as has been said, Mike D had Big Fat Love and The Flophouse Society Orchestra and Adrock filmed Lost Angels around that time.

^ Aren't they examples of them just doing their own thing? I don't think either of you could prove that the Brooklyn/post-LTI situation was based on an actual falling out. I'd be interested though, if you could.

Well, according to the 33 1/3 book on Paul's Boutique, Russell Simmons felt like if he actually did pay the Beasties their royalties from Licensed To Ill, that the band would break up since there was friction between the 3 of them. They were also feuding because Adrock was tight with Rick Rubin. Apparently, the battle against Def Jam pulled the group back together and saved their friendship.

Oh. Didn't get that from the book at all.

I have the book with me right now. Check out pages 5-8. Everything I wrote is on those pages.

Also around the LTI period there was supposedly bad blood between MCA/Adrock and Mike D. Someone in the Def Jam camp (I forget if it was Simmons or Rubin) had tried to convince them that Mike was holding them back and that they would be better off without him.

WOW very interesting stories here guys. A band is like a relationship with break ups, makeups, fights etc... all of that will will ensue. It wouldn't be normal if it didn't...I am not sure what held them together in the end but whatever it was I am damn happy lol.

How could Mike possibly hold them back? It's like trying to take one hydrogen atom out of water. not possible!

I remember reading about how Mike would always get pissed at Horovitz because he'd forget to turn the lights out when he left.

Oh well some of that to me is cute, like getting annoyed by each others habits. I'd like to hear more of that on the BB's lol. I do that with my friend. She leaves cabinet doors and lights on and I always bitch at her for it.
