Apart from the obvious shit like Kanye and Cudi, what's been impressing you in terms of new hip-hop this year?

I really enjoyed Wiz Khalifa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMH7L1_lPVs)'s album Kush & Orange Juice, gotta be the best smoker's album of this year.

CurT@!n$ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w8O2ah6E2Y) dropped a pretty solid mixtape with The Wu Thesis, definitely keeping the Wu swagger alive with that shit.

Big Sean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWOoa76ELe8) is one to watch also, looking forward to a proper LP from the kid.

Chiddy Bang (http://soundcloud.com/somekindofawesome/07-bad-boy-feat-darwin-deez) are absolutely killing it. Get The Preview EP if you can, it's amazing.

I'm also really digging Outasight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfnlcNJJmjk). If they can sort out his image I see big things for the guy.

What are you people digging this year?

In all seriousness though, MGM is a banging beat and it always was so it's nice that it still gets shine.

I have enjoyed OFWGKTA and that's about it.

That best of 2009 list last year, I think roosta linked up that blog with the top 100 tracks of the year; I'm just waiting for something similar to happen this year because I can't be bothered looking for rap music in my old age.

That's a shame because you're really missing out. 2010 has been a pretty good year for hip-hop so far. Even being in the shitty southern hemisphere hasn't killed my thirst for it.

Think this (http://www.fileserve.com/file/bHKYPzy/Chiddy%20Bang%20-%20The%20Preview%20%282010%29.rar) works.

I don't feel like I'm missing out at all. (y)

Yeah, that's kinda the point of missing out.

My bad for thinking people would know anything about hip-hop on here, I guess. The shit I've listed isn't even obscure, just wanted people to share.

Yeah you're right, sharing music in the Music section of the boards is just so BORING.

Let's make a fun thread about how depressed and old we are instead.

Drake - Thank Me Later (light up feat jay-z (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCkp8GblUtU&feature=player_embedded))

EL-P - We're all going to burn in hell (whores: the movie (http://potholesinmyblog.com/el-p-whores-the-movie/))

Most of the stuff Kanye has put out on GOOD fridays and released as singles (Runaway ft pusha t (http://hulkshare.com/i1w98rkyyw4n))

I'm not really a big lil wayne fan but "I am not a human being" was pretty good. (Gonorrhea feat Drake (http://hulkshare.com/rkpm9rdlqf0m))

....surely I'm missing lots?

Edit: Clearly I missed the opening line.... I was going to talk about lots of stuff like Felt and Cage, then I realised that stuff came out last year. Where did this year go?

Edit 2: Oh. The cool kids dropped a new mixtape too. This song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYUSlnXcYeU) isnt on it but its nice. As is the video

Yeah, I was looking to steer away from the Drake, Kanye, Weezy shit and find some stuff people might not have heard. Light Up & Runaway are two of my favourite tracks of this year so far, though. (y)

The CurT@!n$ thing isn't bad and I'm really geting into that Outasight one. I'm not too fussed by the rest to be honest, but thanks either way - it's good to keep an eye on what's going on. I still need to check out some of the other stuff on this thread.

I find that Outasight stuff somewhat reminiscent of the Little Barrie stuff - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKm-3SxBEZc - It's not necessarily the best example, but there's a similar production aesthetic or something going on.

I'm not really a big lil wayne fan but "I am not a human being" was pretty good. Same here! - I haven't really got what the fuss is about lil Wayne on the whole before now, but "I am not..." does have something about it. I was really surprised how much I dug it.

Edit 2: Oh. The cool kids dropped a new mixtape too. I got hold of that 'Tacklebox' thing (I think that's what it was called) a while back if that's the one you're referring to, and there are some good solid tracks on there - there's one track with a summer-type-vibe that I particularly like, but I'd have to look up the name of it.

I kind of see what you mean about Little Barrie. Outasight is a lot more sample-based and polished though, he's definitely got a uniquely hip-hop sound which mixes well with the whole blues-soul thing he's doing.

I don't mind the Cool Kids but I feel they've only got about 3 songs. I was hoping for something better on the new record but it's still kind of repetitive. Still, if you like the Cool Kids then that's probably a good thing.

Some more shit for y'all, because this thread has just been so popular:

The all-star Deuces Remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTLjYiiPy1c) is pretty cool. What do people think about the theory that Ye's verse is addressing the Amber Rose/Fabolous thing? On the same track as Fab too? Andre 3000 kills it which is good to see.

This Doc Ish (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY8Z-oiqdiw) track is pretty nice, got a sweet late 90's Primo type feel. It's also what could be described as a lyical tour de force. Kweli, Sean P and Joey are probably three of the most respected undergroud MCs and they all brought some nice bars (Joe to a lesser extent than the other two).

Speaking of Joey Buttons, he's always been technically gifted but I tend to think he's got a problem with boring subject matter and has put out far too much mediocre material over the last 5 years. Although Sober Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPARREmfLrE) with Crooked I hasn't got the most outstanding beat I've ever heard, the lyrics and subject matter are deep enough to make it an interesting track.

Kanye is pretty much killing the game at the moment, and his appearance on this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XL84zQZ1nw) new Lloyd Banks tune is no exception. "First album I vomited, second I colonic'd it/ Aint nobody fuckin' wit me, I platonic'd it". Sick shit. I'm sure he never used to have such tight metaphors... ghostwriter maybe? I think Pusha T could be writing for him now he's at G.O.O.D.

No mention of Big Boi yet? This album is prone to over saturation if you're not careful. Mainline this shit...
