I just went ahead and requested the friendship of all my family on facebook. I'm running head first. Mostly I just want to make sure my god daughter hasn't become a prostitute...because her profile pic is a little too Miley-Cyrus-leaked pics-for me.

also, reading my aunts' and uncles' status updates is pretty entertaining. 50 somethings on the internet, what next?!

i have a few aunts who requested me, but don't actually have any information on their own profiles so its obvious that they just go on to see what people are doing.

as long as my mom doesn't get on, i'm okay

my mom's on there, but she doesn't have a picture and she doesn't go on it at all. she's not too good at internet, so it doesn't appeal to her too much.

Found out one of my uncles is super into Buddhism, so that's cool. ha.

my entire family seems to be on facebook. my mom occasionally will post things...but nothing too embarrassing. I did get a bit of a lecture though for not visiting her everytime I head up to NH to visit friends...damn status updates.

When my dad got a fb account it made me a little sad :(

ha ha, it is a little sad. but it's nice they get to connect with the world...right?

I gotta stop looking at my god daughter's page...it just keeps making me upset. I can tell she's clever and not a dumb ass, but it seems like all her friends are dumb asses. I can't wait til she goes to college. she's too cute for her own good, but she looks like bratz doll.

I remember when she was a baby. a sweet innocent lil baby :(

My mom's on Facebook and, while she isn't too great at the whole computer/Internet thing, she manages Facebook alright.

Hell, she even plays Farmville. I don't get it... but whatever. Sometimes when we're talking on the phone I can hear sheep and stuff in the background and when I ask about it, she always gets real defensive. Diff'rent strokes to rule the world though, right?

Its sort of cool that he cares to 'stay with the times'... at the same time I'm a little disappointed that he doesn't think he's too cool for it.
I think came to his senses and got bored with it though.

I'm surprised people aren't embarrassed that the amount of time they spend playing Pharmville gets published - maybe they don't know?

Haha, yeah it's funny how I am now more in touch with my big sister since Facebook than I was before. Also I do quite like making slightly embarrassing comments on my nieces' pages.

My dad has a facebook page but he doesn't ever go on there. He's 78 :-o

I;ve never done any farmville. the most I know about it is people joining a group saying "I don't care about your pig, moo, whatever"

Sorry I'm a bit tipsy, can't be bothered to edit this!

...except to say that it's funny when facebook tells you to "reconnect" with your husband, who's sitting right next to you on the sofa.

my entire extended family is on fb. i have been using it more to keep in touch and spread news to them more than anything. it's all blended together now to me...

That reconnect with feature is super creepy.. Facebook would be a lot more useful if it just told you who ignored those things and added them to your Facebook Shit List ©

I'm friends with two cousins, my brother and sister and my girlfriend's aunt () but am steering clear of adding my mother (step) because she already thinks I drink too much and most photos of me are when I've been snapped drinking.

I'm friends with a couple of cousins and one cousin's daughter, and one cousin's halfbrother (well, he's a well known artist here so he always thought that I was just a fan until a couple of weeks ago when I fixed him an odd gig). My dad signed on FB a year or so ago and FB suggested him as a friend, how they found out about our knowing each other I don't know, cause I don't use my real name there. He signed on just because he's interested in family trees, I checked his profile a while back and there hadn't been any action (as you might gues, me and my dad ain't on speaking terms). My sister deleted me from her friends last summer, some tiff, I don't know what, made her propably mad at me, haven't bothered to ask. We do talk tho. And yesterday I got a friend request from my mum's brother, age 68.... I accepted.

My mom's pretty fb-savvy, and I've got her and a lot of my extended family on there. She sometimes embarrasses the hell out of me commenting on my pictures and such, but overall I love her to pieces anyway so it doesn't bother me. I will say this: thank jebus for the "lists" function. Oh, and ET, she's still single.

The worst is couples. I have someone on there who got married at least 3 years ago and still rotates a bunch of wedding photos as their profile pics.. *PUKE*

The worst is people like this:

him: "you're the best wife ever"
her: "aww thanks baby *smoochies* xoxoxox"
him: "we're so lucky to have the cutest baby ever!"
her: "yeah baby on the way has a lot to live up to! he'd better be a genius too!"
him: "would you please pass the salt?"

You know they see and talk to each other every day, what is the point of such bafoonery? I'm paraphrasing from something I saw yesterday...
I'm serious! OK maybe not the salt thing, but still! (n)

also, it's great that some of my friends have kids....but I hate it when EVERY post is about the kid, all the pictures are of the kid, etc.

yes, seriously, why the wedding pics? give me a break! you don't look like that every day, deal with it.

also, I don't get it when couples exchange personal stuff on there either. I might drop something on the boyf's page, or comment on his status, "like" his pics, etc., but I'm not like, "LOL OMG, LEMME MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS WE'RE A COUPLE". however, I did put up some couple pics. :o

One of my friends has a girlfriend I don't care for, and she is always trying to prove they are dating, even though they've been together for years. Somebody commented on his profile pic saying something like, "this is a great picture of you!" and then the girlfriend pops up and says, "thanks!" and explains how she took the picture. umm, well, great, thank you for that information?

but whatever, some people have dull lives. I have one, I just try not to advertise it too much.

I could see how that's annoying but at the same time, I think it's great that a parent is so focused on their kid to be honest. And a lot of people have family on facebook so it's a good way to share what's going on with the kids since the Aunts/Uncles/Grandparents really love that stuff. Just "hide" them if you don't like it! :p

The one thing that does make me snicker a little is when they create a page or fan page for the child (usually a newborn) and make status updates AS IF THE CHILD IS SPEAKING.

i.e. "I'm not sleeping through the night yet but Daddy takes care of me!"

Stop it.

I don't know if posting a million status updates about your kid's poopies proves that you are a great parent. It does prove that you believe everyone should care and that's kind of weird, don't you think?

Its not like these people are just putting photos in an album for whoever cares to go and look. It's more like them standing outside your door and running at you with a photo album and their kids' trophies every time you go to check your mailbox.

I know I would cringe the fuck out if I knew my parents were like that with me, thank GOD there was no interknitz back then(y)

news today.. look at how fb has found ANOTHER way to profile and stalk the shit out of you without your permission and no way to really opt out of... shit, even if you do 'opt out' you know that data is there still:

.
"The New Feature on Facebook launched recently, albeit created for a 'sweet' cause, is stripping the Facebook community of their right to Privacy and choice.

The page itself opens up a feed between two people - Every word shared, every photo and thus: Eveery relationship past or present, painful or otherwise; Every _ word ever shared."

That's weird. But all it did was make me see that I barely post stuff on people's walls. I keep a pretty low profile, or try to. that tiny link you posted didn't come up with anything on me. (y)

although, now it probably will.

and I have, however, in the last few days had my image stolen and used for advertising, and my email accounts hacked so they spam everyone in my address book. :(
