I needed to go to the post office yesterday and get a few things mailed off. I went to what I thought was the best location to avoid the crowed. I got in and noticed the line was almost out the door and I counted over 35 people in line. I also noticed at 2pm there was one worker at the post office to work the line. I thought maybe I should drive 8 miles to the other post office then I thought I am better off waiting here.

15 minutes into my wait one person in the line had been served and I made a few calculations that this was going to be well over an hour wait, so I went to the other post office. Well I was right that my first location was the best option, because the other post office had a longer line again with one worker.

Finally, I went to the UPS store down the street and was in and out in less than a minute, but it did cost me an extra dollar vs. the post office.

I can’t help but think the post office is a symbol to me of what a government run operation is like vs. private sector.

How about that government run military operation, have you read about it? 5,710 deaths, 32,000 wounded and over a trillion dollars to avenge al qaeda?

Talk about punishment.

I think it depends what city you live in. The mail delivery here is hit or miss, and we frequently get the wrong mail at work, either it's meant for the apartments above or for a place across the street.

But I've had quick service at the post office anytime I've gone, at several different offices. Not the most friendly, albeit...but efficient.

and, I've had terrible service at a UPS store. The guys working in there ignored me for a while before giving me an outrageous quote for a package. They were dressed very sloppily and talking about gambling. I didn't use their services.
