I needed to go to the post office yesterday and get a few things mailed off. I went to what I thought was the best location to avoid the crowed. I got in and noticed the line was almost out the door and I counted over 35 people in line. I also noticed at 2pm there was one worker at the post office to work the line. I thought maybe I should drive 8 miles to the other post office then I thought I am better off waiting here.
15 minutes into my wait one person in the line had been served and I made a few calculations that this was going to be well over an hour wait, so I went to the other post office. Well I was right that my first location was the best option, because the other post office had a longer line again with one worker.
Finally, I went to the UPS store down the street and was in and out in less than a minute, but it did cost me an extra dollar vs. the post office.
I can’t help but think the post office is a symbol to me of what a government run operation is like vs. private sector.
