Seems to me the whole thing was an obvious ploy to take attention off his dick and onto his dickishness. And it worked, with the added bonus of an extra 80 grand a week or something ridiculous. It's kinda funny to me how many people didn't see it for what it was- a carefully calculated PR move. As if he was ever going to go to Chelsea or City, and everyone knows he won't go abroad.
I was pretty angry with the way he defied Ferguson but it's very possible this will make their relationship stronger than ever (no homo). Hopefully some good's come out of it in the Glazers' pledging to increase the transfer fund. I heard talk of £100 mil for the next year- that would do nicely.
I'd like Bale, another wing back and maybe another keeper but beyond that, I think the team's going the right way. A lot of attacking talent coming through.

Bale would be nice but cant see it, i'd rather we buy a few cheaper players in a few positions than just one expensive world class dude.
some reckon that fergie engineered all this to actually get a transfer budget and stop the glazers paying themselves more but we'll never know.

It was pure and simple a ploy to get money.
If you ask me it was extremely disrespectful to the manager, the club and the fans.
The lad is a greedy cunt, end of.

That thought about Ferguson being in on it had definitely crossed my mind. Rooney was probably as unpopular as he could get already so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think Fergie decided he would use that. Like you say, we'll never know. Either way, this could open up a new period in United's development if the transfers really do start coming in...
So if not Bale, how about Sneijder? Nani is looking good but with Valencia out and Giggs no longer a pace player we could do with some fresh talent on the wings. Obertan's not looking nearly useful enough.
I think it's time to think about letting Neville sit out as well, although he won't go quietly. His performance Vs. Stoke was an embarassment... even as a fan that's followed him all his career I think it's the right time for him to give up no matter how passionate he is about the club. He's starting to resemble the rude old man that talks shit and is too decrepit to back it up.
Rafael and Fabio looked good last year but unless they improve they might have to go too, which means more wingbacks will be needed. I wonder who Sir Alex would go for?
Also, I like these rumours about getting Reina in, that would be a good signing. A year or two ago we were in the best position for keepers we'd been in for years but then Foster got impatient and Kuszcak seems to have lost the edge he had a couple years ago.

Bale would be a good signing, Van Der Vaart's arrival has put him out of sorts.
Speaking of which, I had the Spuds, but VDV might just be bargain of the season.
Snjeider (sp?) would be a mega signing for ye.
Naturally, I hope ye get none of them and are stripped for assetts...

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllll, yes and no.
His slimeball agent has got a lot to answer for but if rooney lets him take charge then the buck stops there.
Having said that it was an unusual statement about the ambition and squad strength and i do think there was some anti-glazer/worry in there. maybe he was testing to see what was available.
i'm worried how much we are going to have spend on current squad because of this.
My guess is that when he said that he would stay for life then had a change of heart has got a lot to do with people like Yaya toure getting two hundred thousand bar a week and he's thought well i want a piece of it and yes that is greedy. Sort of understandable but still greedy. To play for manchester united (or one of the other massive clubs) should be worth more than getting major whack for a lesser club with a lesser tradition.
It didnt look good on the same day a shitload of jobs were cut in UK.
We need a keeper. Deffo, not sure Reina will happen, i'd take him though.
I think rafael was good last season and needs to be given the chance to show he has learnt from a couple of high profile mistakes, its a learning curve for him.

Ronney wants out, that's crystal clear. The sole reason we've had him extend his contract is so that we can get full whack for him when City or whoever else come asking for him in the summer (possibly January). No player says they want out unless they actually do. It's clear from his performances this season that he has zero interest in playing for us (possibly zero interest in football judging from his world cup performances).
I want the mercenary out. He criticises his team mates' skill, and his club's lack of ambition and the fact that the club aren't making any marquee signings, but sorry Wayne, you're being outshined by a previously unknown player from Mexico who cost less than your contract extension. And that's the point - in a week when half a million people have been made redunant (I myself have been reduced from 5 days a week to 2), to then hold a football club to ransom over a massive new paycheque (where he gets paid in a week what most people earn in a decade) because they 'lack ambition' and at the same time deprive them of the transfer funds needed to sign new players simply smacks of egoism of the highest order.
Fuck off and play for whoever strokes your ego the most and earn your £300,000 a week warming the bench at Eastlands, Stamford Bridge, or The Bernabéu, you money grabbing, prostitute shagging, potato-faced cunt. Sir Matt must be spinning in his grave at the fact that we've caved to Shrek and his slimeball agent!

i thought you might feel this way freeb, not arguing, its fair enough. the whole issue has split most united fans i know.
I personally feel that he didnt want out but was prepared to leave if he didnt get the increase which is still wrong but i would like to think he has some feelings for the place and the team and that its his agent who is the cunt. I will still get behind him and cheer him on but i dont think he'll kiss the badge for a bit, dont think it'll go down that well. Still think all this will happen again in 3 years.
As for hernandez, he's made a great start and it looks good but you never know he could the same thing in a couple of years.
The funniest thing about the whole episode was that city allegedly offered 275 GRANS a week.

ah, dude. you cannot put this on the agent. The man makes his own decisions. Sure he's influenced and advised, but he doesn't get told what to do, as you said. Just face it, he's greedy.
Face facts, he doesn't really 'care' about the club. What it means to you is not what it means to him.
Accept that and you'll be alot happier.

im glad an englishmen said this before me so i didnt looked like a hater (which i am a man u hater but still).
this is only to pacify the fans. wayne said hes leaving, man u is ready for it, but they want to get as much money for him so they agreed to sign a new contract to make it the best for both parties.
man u will be back on the european scene in about 10 years tho.
Didn't C-Ron do exactly the same before he left? Signed a big contract to keep his value high when he left the next summer.

i was going to bring this up. very similar.
idk where hes going to go honestly. i dont see him having any success in spain to be honest, barca or real madrid. but that doesnt mean he still may not go there. i also see inter as a fairly long shot (but maybe not that long) that way milito has been playing this year. that team is WAY to reliant on eto'o right now.
that realistically leaves chelsea and man city. man city i think would offer more money (but then agian its not like roman isnt baller status) however im not sure wayne would choose there if he had to pick. i think he would fit perfect on chelsea tho. put him outwide so he doesnt have the weight of the team on his shoulders. let drogba carry that burden for another couple years.
that is really the only position chelsea need an upgrade. anelka is defiantly an above average player, but is by no means great and wayne would most def be an upgrade. the rest of the team is very complete for the next couple years with a good to great player in every position.

You people (sorry Aidan, not sorry anyone else) are total idiots if you seriously believe he's going to leave in the summer after this. He's just burnt any bridges with big clubs that may have been sniffing around with his comments about Ferguson and the club, and there is no way he can change his mind again without losing some serious face.
Also Aid, have you totally forgotten everything Rooney has done over the last 6 years at our glorious club? A player in his position is the only person I could (only just) forgive for such insolence- people forget he is still only 24 years old- but just think of how much he has achieved for us already. Most of the criticism you have levelled at Rooney should be re-directed at Stretford for being such an obviously manipulative slimy cunt. Yes the wages being thrown about in football are disgusting but that's not a new issue and is far from Rooney's fault.
Like I said originally the pressure about his private life (and lack of form) just got too much for the lad and I think he got talked into doing something he regretted to try and "escape". He's not fully forgiven yet but he's pledged his foreseeable future to the club and the least we can do is give him a chance to prove that. I find it hard to call anyone who's going to be pulling on a United shirt a "mercenary cunt", so let's save that kind of thing for if/when he does leave shall we?
Also yes Sir Matt would not approve of this whole fiasco- neither would the Sir Alex Ferguson of ten years ago. But it's just got to happen for us to survive under the Glazers- football is increasingly about money, no matter how much the fans may hate it. Do you really want us going the way of Liverpool?

i never said it was totally agents fault, i said that if statements come out in waynes name then the buck stops there. I just feel that if it was between wayne and the club and wayne wanted more money then it would have been sorted with a chat and a handshake but as agents are involved its a messier process. I have been shaken that its obvious he cares about united less than i thought but i still think there is some love there. But yes greed has played a part.
I am still not entirely sure fergie didnt have summat to do with it all but thats the conspiracy theorist in me.
Look, wayne has signed and you have to get behind him again and cheer him on, inspire him to returning to form as there is no poiint us paying all that money for a bench donkey. It was handled very strangely but he's signed and he'll be here for at least another 3 years and thats it. lets move on.

im not convinced thats the case. i think its more like the ronaldo case than people think. obviously man u knows wayne is still there best player and they still want to win things this year. it makes no sense to have the fans turn on him and affect his play. if they really want silverware they need wayne firing on all cylinders (not to mention to increase his sale value).
but at the end of the day i think they have an agreement that he will be sold.
the possible additional forward, midfielder, outside back and goalkeeper (real original to name all positions i know, but in all honesty they could use an addition in each area to really challenge) (and not saying they can get a top player at all 4 positions but 2 or 3 would be the goal) with the money gained from the wayne sale would make them a much more complete team.

FFS
any other player and this isnt an issue. yes he shouldnt have done it but he's immediately had a word. plenty of things happen in heat of a game and nothing happens after.
I am hoping the FA are just paying lip service to media pressure (i dont htink anyone is actually arsed) and going thru motions and it all be done with and no action taken.
What if gerrard did it? OR fabregas? Different reaction, i think so.
