I've done my research and see that only Rich Cheney catches a chub at the mention of this group. Anyone else?

Personally, I find them to be a bit depressing. I've been a big fan of Watkin Tudor Jones for years now. Living in Pittsburgh, PA, it's hard to get copies of albums from Capetown, but I managed to get Max Normal's Songs from the Mall and Constructus Corporation's The Ziggurat. These are 2 fantastic albums in their own right. That being said, he's kind of fallen off my radar since about '03. Recently, I found out from a friend that likes weird techno that he's heading up this group ("The Answer" in Afrikaans). I'd say they're kind of a gimmick. He's trying to be the Sasha Baron Cohen of the music industry and I find it to be sad. This guy has so much raw talent as a lyricist. I just don't see the need to hide behind a persona. Perhaps I'm just disgruntled because he's gone away from straight hiphop and is wandering in the realm of futuristic techno bullshit. What REALLY gets me fired up is that Die Antwoord's blowing up, too. They're all over the NYC scene and have played Coachella. I want to be happy for him, but man........wtf happened to you!!??!?

Die Antwoord is ZEF poes! Though I find it strange that they seem to be getting so huge in America. Cool though.

If you like them I recommend South African rapper Jack Parow.
He has a moustache. And he speaks more Afrikaans than Die Antwoord do, which is funny for me, as it sounds like Dutch, but with a silly accent.

Pretty much the same thoughts, The Fantastic Kill still sounds great so are his other albums under other alias and I still enjoy alot. When I heard Ninja/Zef Side youtube videos doing the rounds a few months ago and enjoy the $O$ album for a few listens, I loved the idea in principle, I've always wanted to see more satire and comidey in hip hop, sending up po-faced ultra serious hip hop, but the luls wear abit thin and gets a bit Goldie Lookin' Chain after a albums worth of it. That said Ninja is still pretty "Next level $hit" cool.

I've heard Enter the Ninja a million times on the radio at work - what a puerile piece of throwaway chav-trash. It's like listening to a South African version of Tim Westwood do an impression of himself to a reject drumloop produced on a semi-functioning BBC Micro.

People enjoy this shit?

I kind of though the video with all the penises was kind of clever... fuck did i just say?...

It was about rejecting widely accepted excruciating adult male circumcision (or something like that) and rejecting the idea that you're a 'not a man' if you don't partake. To get that message across and bang it into the heads of retards in Africa who still believe in shit like that, I thought it was appropriately grimy and attention grabbing.

Anyway, they remind me of the prodigy for some reason, smacking their dicks up & shit...

Apparently. Check out his older work. Rick Flare, Jellyfish, Invisible Sentinels, and Metatron One are solid tracks from his Constructus Corporation days.

I saw them in Boston with Sleigh Bells. Luckily Sleigh Bells went on first. I stood thru a couple of Die Antwoord's songs and bounced. I wasn't feeling it.

Yeah, it was Money Mark on the drums and then Flea came out. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpNr7sguHBI)

Not sure how the confusion between Mike D and Money Mark started.

I was working as a chauffeur at Way Out West festival a few years ago and had to collect them at the railway station. They just left an impression of cool guys. A few days later I had to drive someone from the hotel to the airport and was told what deuchebags they'd been not letting her on stage at all. Since then I've had difficulties to accept her squeeqy voice or his racist views.. Or their stupid music....

Let it get straight:
I don't know if they're douchebags in real life...
but they are not racist...they just play with provocation and are for the peace between civilisations..
In South Africa a lot a cultures are going on, and are in conflict...they keep working with and representing all of them...showing an union...

I think they are definitely artsy douchebags, or acting like artsy douchebags. Dunno really --where does reality and theatre overlap (does it have to?). Regardless the Pink Floyd shorts (http://youtu.be/4_pS46YRMIQ) rock the house (around the 47 second mark), no doubt about it ;)

Yeah, I saw that when it came out. Then I googled it to be sure and saw reports of Money Mark and Flea. Out of all the sources I thought Rolling Stone would have their shit together.

Shrug.

I was all excited to see Mike D rocking out the trap kits. No disrespect to Money Mark...
