So since my desktop has gone to shit, I was thinking it's time to build my first computer. Can anyone recommend a good motherboard and video card? I don't need anything special just something that can play 9 tabs of youporn videos at the same time. jkjk

5-10 years ago I would say build your own computer. And only now if you was building at least 3+ identical at the same time.

Thing is, its cheaper to buy one from someone who put its together for you and you can choose ya parts than it is to buy those same parts separate and build your own.

They'll test it for you to and if it breaks then you send the whole thing back. If it breaks on your build then you have to spend time finding out which part it is and testing it separately etc.

Its only when you can afford yourself some of those buyer discounts by getting 3+ parts at a time its worth it.

I used to build computers for people - hobby like... Not any more cus its all laptop and netbook these days. No-one has room for a tower on their desk :)

if you're just looking for a pc to do basic stuff, you're better off getting a prebuilt one.

just stay away from dell.

the only time you should really need to build a computer is if you're doing heavy multimedia shit like games, home theater, hi fi stereo, and tv.

but if you're just surfing the web and burning cd's you don't need a fancy pc.

just look for a windows 7 home premium pc with 4 gigs of ram

It's hard to make a suggestions considering there are so many factors - affordability being one of the biggest motivators

Asus is known to make great motherboards

i've built myself a couple computers over the years

every time, the power supply goes to shit on me. i burnt out 3 of them over the course of 6 years.

meanwhile, i've reused the same cheap ass dvd-rom drive and the thing still works just fine....

and ya, asus is a good mobo

cooling issue?

did it damage any other components?

i think one of them had a fan issue, but the last one just crapped out for no apparent reason.

the only other hardware issues i've ever had is a hard drive crash.

i want to build a new desktop using my external hard drive and reuse my graphics card and all the other drives.

This store on Ebay will build a pc to your exact specs chosen from the menu of options. Their prices are really good and the service is great.
