I just found out that its "for all intents and purposes" and not "for all intensive purposes".

And now that I know, it makes way more sense.

heheh i just saw an episode of IT crowd where jen said you don't need to put women up on a pedal stool and roy said it's all a damp squid.
my problem is mispronouncing words. i used to say vaaargue instead of vague. tooted instead of touted. it brings my mother a lot of joy.

Until a few weeks ago my gf thought the term was "beach whale" as opposed to "beached whale"

Was it Jade Goody who thought she was being made into 'an escape goat'?

She was a real class act.

I sometimes misuse the phrase "I would venture to guess."

Oh thank baby jesus, I hate when people say that - haha

You could probably blame it on the mumbling assholes who you heard it from... if people would just ENUNCIATE these things might not happen so much!

THE worst is "I have no words".. or just "no words"... it seems to get more and more bastardized the more I see it. The bridge and tunnelers just LOVE to mangle that shit up. Annoys the poop outta me.

In English, that would be the expression "calm, cool and collective". So easy, but I used to think it was "calm, cool and collected". And so many others I'm embarrassed to write!:p

In a rather odd conversation in the middle of M&S the other week, my sister corrected me on 'Japs eye'. I was calling it 'Jacks eye'

no, it would always be "collected". "collective" doesn't make sense. a person can't be collective, they can only be collected.

I can honestly say I've never said a phrase without being sure of what I was saying. except for maybe "fuckin' A", I was never sure about that one. but it's true, people say that.

in my family, proper grammar was a matter of great importance. I was taught to read when I was 3, and my speech was constantly corrected. Sure, it was annoying at times. but, fuckin' a! at least I don't sound like a dumb ass (very often).

It doesn't really matter these days though, does it? I was half-watching the Today Show and they had on this realtor lady who showcases affordable homes around the country. She kept saying things like, "there's plenty of amenities". NO NO NO NO NO! There ARE plenty of amenities! YOU ARE ON TELEVISION RIGHT NOW! ARE ARE ARE ARE FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCKING DIE!

pardon me.

When you watch a NFL game on TV and the announcer comes on and says this broadcast may not be reused without written express/expressed consent...

which is it? expressed or express?
