View Full Version : Could you kill a man?

Sometime I wish I could disconnect from society, kill a man, disappear and fear no consequences. Other times I fell my conscience is too developed and the bad thing would weigh on my mind.

As a result I turn to drink and transgressive literature.

He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man.

Solipsism is something to surely drown in, and Kant's conceptual schemes are all we can experience.

It's too variable to be a yes/no thing.

When nursing I could have easily handed over a lethal dose to a dying patient who asked for it, unplugged something, etc. Suffering is harder to witness than death. But then, consequences, the 'Prisoner Cell Block H' lifestyle doesn't appeal.

Could I just jump out on someone and commit 'moider'?
Nope.
I feel awful if I squish a bunny on the road and have apologised to many corpses for bumping them, dropping them, etc.

And blood is so sticky and messy and smells funny.
And dying people make horrible noises.
And there chances are slim that I'd get to meet Jessica Fletcher.

I could kill a man ant and in fact have killed man ants repeatably without nary a blink of remorse.

Funnily enough, yes. Man, woman or child, whoever is a threat. Don't think I want to or enjoy it though.

I can't even kill wasps without feeling guilty. Killing someone no matter how just the cause may be, I couldn't at all.

Its why I couldn't be in the army or find it hard to support the majority of what they do. Someone is always someone else's son or daughter or brother or sister or partner or just the jolly old homeless guy who dances down the street at 6am every morning. They'll be missed no matter how disposable or dark skinned someone may be deemed to be. Even for the greater good. I'm basically a pussy.

Probably not, but it's hard to determine. I've been debating getting a handgun recently. I never saw myself as a gun guy. As a kid, I hunted deer one year, shot one, and cried as a result. I'd like to think I could take care of biz if there's ever an issue with an intruder.

I don't think "could" is a very interesting question. "Want" is where the real psychology starts...

Exactly. As far as 'could' goes, you could find and intruder in your house and fight with him on the stairs and he could fall and die. In the heat of the moment and fighting for our safety, many of us could. Unless you're a fucking idiot, you'd never let yourself get killed in fear of killing them first. I think that's how most soldier see it, me or him.

But actually wanting to kill someone for no other reason than having killed is a whole different fish kettle.

Its a good point defining could.

I've done some martial arts, I know where to hit someone that could kill them hitting them the wrong way so I know how to avoid that - I've never been taught "kick/punch someone like <this> if you want to kill them" but have been taught "kick/punch someone like <this> and not <like this> as getting it wrong could kill them". I've also done some self defense classes, cus I find shit like this interesting even though the more manly types find it a bit too girly cus I'm very unlikely to be raped or picked on because I'm a big guy, I look potentially more harmful than what I actually am - which is probably a good survival tool for me.

Anyway, my point is, in all of those classes and training if you are confronted with a life or death situation, generally you use a move to temporarily disarm and/or immobilise the threat and run the fuck away, no matter what Dan or Degree your black belt maybe. You don't aim to hurt them more than what they could of potentially hurt you. This in my opinion makes you no better than the original offense if you do.

Another point is getting a gun for me is an arms race that I don't want to be a part of. If most homes are armed, then the type of criminal that might come into your home would probably have bigger balls to use that weapon against you than you would against them. The instinct of the intruder would be to see that life/death situation and either use a gun they might of stole from a previous household or decided to carry or get to yours somehow. If homeowners are packing, then maybe I should. I'm a criminal, I should be packing for my line of work. All criminals are now packing so I really should be to, including taking it out in my car with me. In fact this time, I'm gonna take it out of the car and carry it with - this is a dangerous neighbourhood, I've seen people carrying guns (like me) and I should suspicious of anyone (like me). I am now the suspicious character I set out to protect myself from. Its a never ending escalation that I fear can't be fixed while ever guns are legal. I also don't think the police should carry them as a matter of cause.

Another early morning rant, brought to you by Adam.

No criminal has bigger balls than me. I use mine as a weapon. I call it my bludgeon sack, intruders watch out.
