I hate beer

I really do and I won't touch the stuff. Trouble is, people think that I, being the young man that I am, am weird for not liking it. I hate the taste, the fact that it's so gassy and fills you up. It makes me throw up, gives me hangovers and makes drinking an unpleasant experience.

People actually show a little bit of disgust when I say I don't drink it, and in fact, I won't drink any lagers, beers or ciders at all. It's such a normal thing to say 'let's go for a beer' 'would you like a beer?' 'I'll have to buy you a beer', but when people say all that to me, I just think 'nah, you're okay'.

You say that, but there's a whole nother realm of judgement with being the 'I only drink German wheat beer' guy. Personally I enjoy a J&B Whisky with splash of Doctor Pepper.

drinking good beer and then becoming too broke to afford it has given me an appreciation for the whole gamut of beers that are out there. i have beer snob friends who will sort of grimace and say "ugh, how can you stand that?" when i drink something cheap like a narragansett or a PBR.

how satisfying it must be to be unable to take pleasure in something cheap and simple, i'm sure i feel terrible missing out on the joys of a refined palate

I love beer but I gotta watch how much I drink because of the calories. I'd say explore and try some imports because not all of them taste the same. But if you don't like beer then you don't like it, nothing wrong with that!

I have a buddy who only likes wine... We all understand, and it's cool. You need to find more understanding friends.

People are ALL different, with different tastes, your friends should understand that. I doubt your friends ALL listen to the same music, drive the same brand of car, etc.... Your drink tastes' are no different.

Most of my drinking buddies like regular "yellow" beer, I love Dark (Black) beer, but I've never been harassed over it. They understand we're all different.

yeah, I mainly drink whisky now - with one ice cube (not two damnit!).

But, if people are almost disgusted because you don't drink the same beer with the rest of the sheep then its cus they are just blokey blokes who to me come across as boys still thinking they are in their teen - early 20s. Which if you are in your early 20s great but as we all did back then, still had lots of growing up to do.

I'm sayin; a blokey bloke would just continue to drink beer and find a brand least offensive or learn to stomach it. You have your drink, its available at most places and doesn't come across more overly expensive in rounds as others, so enjoy and ignore the haters (as George W. Bush would say).

I was actually watching a TV show the other night where these 2 Brit dudes where travelling over Oz and there were in the outback in some bumfuck little 'town' in the middle of nowhere, sampling true Aussie beers. Emu was one of them, and in fact, that program inspired me to make this thread.

I hate most beers. I really like expensive sour beers though. but they are too expensive and not around very much.

Other than that, I like Belgian stuff, light and citrusy. Or Bud Light. and I don't care who knows it! I like how it tastes. so sue me. If I'm out to get drunk, I'll drink PBRs and whiskey. If I'm feeling fat, I drink vodka and soda water with lime.

yeah thanks for the recommendations, but I lived in Bavaria for four years where wheat beer sits alongside Catholicism as the state religion. I've had enough of both.

It's not exactly the same thing, but people get weird around me when I say I prefer champagne over anything else. They assume that means I like everything fancy when I'm the total opposite. I prefer affordable champagne thankyouverymuch. I like that it's light, crisp, takes only three or so glasses to get me drunk and never gives me a hangover. :D

El Presidente is greatness.

It is actually Presidente but I like to insert the El in the name. It is an incredible pilsner. I can drink one after the other until I am happily wasted. I always bought Presidente when I lived in South Florida but since I moved to Virginia I miss it. I wish a Dominican genie would make a truck appear in front of my house or give me a cargo plane ticket to Miami or the Dominican Republic. I think a cold Presidente is perfection. God bless the Dominicans!

it's a horrible beer but yet... you drink it because it's so intrigueing(sp). you drink it to remind yourself there are better beers around the corner.
