View Full Version : how old is too old to party?

i like to party, i'm 31, but i get tired. i know some people just a tad younger than me who party all the time, well, as far as i can tell from all the facebook photos. which, by the way is weird to me because i only take pictures of my cats. i tried to take pictures of this couple i know pretending to be the ramones once (so people would see them and think, "wow, look how much fun was had!"), but it was too dark.

When the day after, it's hard to get out of bed, your joints are creaking, and you're asking yourself, "What the hell was I thinking?" then you know you're too old..

I've been too old for a while, and occasionally I have to ask myself the previous question. I never regret it, but I sometimes wonder why I go through it. The answer is always, Good times, with close friends. Priceless!

You're only as old as the person you're feeling.

I think the definition of "to party" changes as you get older. Anything that the under 21s are doing you've already done. Why do it again if the consequences are pain somewhere down the line? That is just being smart. This is why everyone younger than you currently are is generally an idiot.

My first thought is how young is too young to stop partying?

I think part of the thing is when you're younger you always feel like you're missing out on shit when you're not partying, but as you get older and the more you party you realize you arent missing all THAT much and a lot of it is in your head.. maybe you can do with once a week or every couple of weeks and be aight... and thats ok

Also, you discover things as you get older that you just didnt have the energy to do when you were younger because you were trying to prove to yourself that you had to partaay all the time. Its not that get so much tired, its that your priorities develop and mature, you always had a limited amount of energy, you just choose to spend it differently now and there just isnt as much time for the parteh. At least that;s my perspective

That being said, age and I've been going out a bit more than I did the last few months because I've just come out of a tunnel of work and feel like I need to get out a little more - - still not as much as I used to, but I do a lot more with my time than I did back then

PARRRRTY HARDYYY MAN! DERFFF

age is only a number. just because you get "older" numerically doesn't mean you have to grow up. but on that note you do get wiser. instead of drinking 25 shitty beers in a night to get blacked out ill just have a couple really good beers (albiet more expensive :( ) and just enjoy them.

i was just thinking yesterday or the day before actually, while looking at some random peoples photos on fb (friend of a kinda friend) and just thinking what the fuck are these people doing with their life's. i say to my self i dont want to end up like them, there getting to their 40s and still going to bars and "partying" i guess you could say. people can do whatever they want, but idk i feel there is a point where you just need to be like ehh ill leave this to the next generation. i'm leaning to thinking when you actually bring that next generation into this world it would be a good time for that.

I'm 33 and still go out on occasion...but not to go out and get drunk. I may get a bit tipsy, but the whole point of going out now is to have dinner and drinks with friends. If I drink too much it takes days to recover.

I was in NYC on Monday night to see a band at the Mercury Lounge. Some dude gave me a free beer. I thanked him later on when I saw him outside. He said, "wow, you look good in the light." LOL! wonder how bad I looked in the dark bar?? I had to give him a hug...his line made me laugh my ass off for the rest of the evening.

I went to visit my old friend George the other day. He used to frequent these boards from time to time. I drank an innapropriate amount of rum far too quickly and he had to pack me on an early train home. When I got to the station I went to Burger King. Their card machine was broken so it was cash only and I had two pounds twenty in coins. I asked the merchant what I could afford with just two pounds twenty, he said a cheeseburger, so I ordered a cheeseburger and handed over my coins. He proceeded to scoop up three cheeseburgers and put them in the carry out bag and turned to face me with a knowing look in his eye. For some reason the fact that I had been handed three cheeseburgers instead of one terrified me.

I then had to sit on a cold train that toured the backwaters of the Wirral, and that terrified me more.

is the exchange rate that bad now? i think you can get a cheeseburger at mcd's for like $1 last time i checked

nic, was the dude a bartender? if not, he bought you a beer - it wasnt free..
either way, you're not too old to party.

i will say though, the recovery is all about what you drink and proper hydration/nutrition.
for not going out as much is about not enough time to get everything i want done

I'm 69 and always have time to party.

way too old!

When your liquor of choice can only be delivered by intravenous method, one should consider bird watching or lawn bowling instead...but I had packed the party hardy away before 35 pretty much...

well, it was free for me since I didn't pay for it! (y)

I find if I drink a couple glasses of water before bed the hangover is a bit less in the AM

at 37 i still go out, less than i'd like to but thats more of a logistical situation getting babysitters etc.
I do feel a bit old if we go clubbing but still able to carry on till the small hours with the younger crowd. (although last time i was out, i was asked by an 18 year old "what was raving like in the olden days", cheeky bugger). Its the recovery time thats the issue. If i go to a club night or gig on the friday i make sure i book the monday off work.

only if your dick is in your hand.

Or you're playing an MMO. That is like major partying.

i party less due to the recovery time is greater @ 38.

But my parties are much better quality and more to my liking by design.

Last week I was out untill 3am at a home poker game and that was my big party for the week. One night was party with the wife and the rest of the week was all kids and catching up on sleep. cant wate till next week.

My beloved Uncle Pete partied hard right up to his death at the young age of 54. He was a Harley guy and he was the salt of the earth. He had all kinds of health problems but would never ever give up the booze, weed and women. He was married 4 times and had 8 kids. The day he was laid to rest over 100 Harleys lead his processional around town to the cemetery. At the cemetery you could smell the weed wafting thru the air. I can still hear my Mom say--what is that funny smell?! Ha! He had fun but it would be nice to still have him around. His partying had some real bad effects on his loved one's lives. Failed marriages, children with bitter feelings and his death. Of course, partying can be fun so don't get me wrong. Heck, I was just like my Uncle Pete up until my mid 30s. I heard it all the time...your just like your Uncle Pete! Grow up! He loved hearing that and I was a chip off the old block. My body began to ache and I had trouble getting through days with a clear head. Bags under my eyes, etc. I decided it was time to feel good and so I married and I now have a son. I still have a nice cold beer or mixed drink on occasion but no more coming home at sunrise and going to work for me. Besides I did not want to become the old dude at the happy hour loudly telling stories and calling for a cab. I would rather be the old dude on the treadmill and coaching my son's soccer team.
Don't worry you will all know when it is time to stop because your body will tell you. Your body has to carry you around every waking hour so it will say--give it a rest.

It depends, I guess, but most people in their 30's are in another phase of life. I mean, somethings partying is fun, but not too much of it, like when you were 15-25. It's just different. I get sleepy way earlier than before and I don't have the same "hey, I woke up at 5am this morning, took a cold shower and feel awesome!" energy anymore.:o

We don't party anymore, oddly that stopped when we quit smoking (2 years ago) - we'll enjoy a couple drinks and food, but no more crazed nights

plus a bunch of our college friends are gone, we're still in the area because of family.

I wonder what 'partying' means these days.I mostly drink several pints and play the quiz machine.Last time I saw the Beastie Boys at Brixton I stood at the back. There was no way I was going to try and get to the front and jump up and down.It would have killed me.

so I guess we're all in agreement then, partying super hard every night when you're over 30 is kinda lame?

okay, I'll stop feeling bad about missing out on stuff now. I just had looked at all these party pics these two girls I know put up and felt at first sad that I didn't go, but then embarrassed for them. I'm sure they had fun though...when they were conscious.

I once went to one of their parties and I thought it was pretty lame. In my day, we threw televisions out of windows and danced til dawn. at their party, they just danced a lot to terrible music before getting so wasted nobody knew which end was up. I left before that, but I saw the pictures later.
seriously though, awful fucking music.

getting wasted at festivals or cottaging outages such as on the 4th of july is another story. but the every weekend getting blacked out just because thats what you do should stop a couple years after college imo.

Awesome.

I was at a festival this Summer in which this old guy was dancing along with the rest of the young uns. I totally hoped it was me coming back to the past as all the girls were dancing with him.

Old people are brilliant! (apart from the smell).

Dotty just do what you want I guess. I have friends who are all freaked out about being in their 40s and they go out raving and taking lots of drugs whenever they can. It gets to the point when it looks a bit sad. I dunno.

I think that's fake...looks like someone dressed like an old person.

I went to Kingston Mines in Chicago a few weeks ago. There was this guy in his 70's or 80's dancing all night long! He had his cane and was getting down. It was kinda creepy when he gyrated his hips.

raving! oh dear.

Well, I'm going to bring back a little party tonight at this thing called Garbage World. It's going to be like a live John Waters movie. I will likely see genitals. I will probably keep mine covered.

part of a bio for one of tonight's peformers:

He performs as Ishtar Bukkake in the clubs, and in Garbage World. He was there for the first and third. We watched as he masturbated with a dildo on a blue tarp in a muddy basement. We watched as he wiped his ass with hot dogs. We laughed, maybe cringed, but we were with him somehow. I see repetition of desires, working through our bodily notions as we work towards streamlining ourselves through science, towards going beyond the body, but losing sight of our fleshy, watery selves — we sweat, we reek, we’re gross in the end.

I'm getting kind of scared.

that's why it's "shocking" and "art". I dunno, I'll probably just be drinking on the roof.

the last time I went to a party like this...well, wait, I've never been to a party like this. But maybe a party where there were people who would go to this...anyway, I just got shit faced and punched a punching bag a lot. it was probably pretty fun? I asked a girl to show me her tits and she did.

i totally love to go out and party still but it really isn't very often, and we're usually the oldest in the club...but who gives a fuck. just can't do a full 24hr drinking/staying up thing so much which is normally fine but when i wake up in the early hours at a festival and hear Subfocus rumbling the entire isle of wight and i'm not there coz i've been drinking and dancing all day and am too fucked....that sucks. partying for me generally involves music...i would rarely go out to just sit and drink
