Looks really great, very good to see some long overdue attention to this group that has influenced music and hip hop in oh so many ways.

I don't feel like they get the respect they deserve from the hip hop world, maybe its just because I love em so much? I dunno. On more than a few occasions I've heard people dissing on TCQ, like one time I requested them at this cool little spot called Bob's downtown.. the dj was like, "Whatchu like? Beastie Boys and Tribe Called Quest and shit?" like they're not real hip hop or some crap, or its just hip hop that white people like or something dismissive.

Also, I notice that TCQ isn't played too much on local hip hop radio, its very rare when you do hear em there.

I dunno, to me, TQC was part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. There was a summer where all we listened to was Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill and Beastie Boys - constantly. It was the summer where my friends discovered herbs, beer and beats.. Midnight Marauders, Low End Theory, Black Sunday, The Red Album, Check Your Head and Ill Communicaton were on CONSTANT rotation at every opportunity.

It was a little off-putting when Tip did the Vibrant Thing videos for some reason, I don't know why they just fell off except for Phife's diabetes. If anything I'd say Phife is one of the MOST underrated or unrecognized MC's ever.

I saw some of the videos that Adams and Mike did for the documentary. Kind of cool that Michael Rappaport put this Together. I'm not sure what kind of release its going to get, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I saw QTip DJ a couple of times at a club and he was really accessible and a nice guy. I didn't want to jump on the guy, but it felt like you could just talk to him and I did a little but left him alone not wanting to be that asshole. Its always special getting to meet your idols, pretty gratifying to especially when its such a laid back and informal experience. Except when I met Ringo once by my old job, but shit - fucking Beatles man!

Also, I saw that TCQ are doing a little performing/touring(?) lately, I could see some BBoys live collabo's happening? Maybe they will coincide? T'would be nice(y)

On the one hand, I'm quite excited about this. (http://www.atribecalledquestmovie.com/)
On the other, Michael F'n Rapaport!!!!
So I'm dubious, to say the least.
Although I suppose, as Ben Stiller proved not that long ago, celebrity fans are able to get an almost impossible amount of unfettered access.
The Boys participation is a good sign at least.

yeah, i know.. he's aight though., i like Rappaport, he's cool. Not exactly who I would've picked to make this, but he does love them a lot and I think he's coming from a good place about it. i hadn;t listened to the songs/samples on that page you posted there.. real nice

On this tip, I remember back in the day hearing a very local rumor that a friend of a friend saw QTip with Lord Jamar and Horovitz at the Taco Bell close by my house in LJ's neighborhood. I always kind of wished that was true. This was around 1995, haha(y)

Q-Tip & Adrock have always and I think always will be my 2 fav people of all time so I love hearing anything Tribe/Beastie related.
SOOO true bout the lack of Tribe videos on youtube. Iv spent hours searching and come across some good ones, wish I had have favorited them. Theres some good tv performances an some good Scenario live versions. I wish Tribe an Beastie's had have done more tracks together they are my all time fav groups. Can not wait for this documentary hopefully there will be more live footage.
Although a lack of Tribe videos there is a LOT of good as Q-Tip videos. Q-Tip's live shows are insane, I went to a show of his in Melbourne in 2009 a the energy he brings is insane. Up there with Beastie's as the best performers iv ever seen.
I was luckily enough to see Tribe a few months ago in Melbourne an experienced the best moment of my life getting on the mic with Tip during "Award Tour". You can see a video someone filmed of the moment here -

I don't think Tribe are underrated at all if I'm being honest. Any hip-hop head will agree that their first 3 albums are classics and I guess the reason they aren't talked about is the same reason Run-DMC, KRS-One, NWA etc. aren't talked about anymore: because they're so obviously one of the touchstones for hip-hop it's not even up for discussion. I remember bumping Tribe albums with my friend on the green at college (age 16- English colleges are different) smoking spliffs, playing football and everybody loved them, a lot of people who didn't even fuck with hip-hop like that knew who they were and shit. So I think they are well represented.

apparently Qtip is not happy with the film, nor does he endorse it....

If you're into Some Kind Of Monster inter-band drama, then maybe this will be up your alley.

My bro used to work for King Magazine and his co-worker interviewed Qtip. Said he was kind of an asshole and refuted parts of the interview after the fact. I also listened to an interview Phife did with BBC a few months ago and he was very disappointed that Qtip took credit for Tribe's production (since most, myself included, assumed Shaheed handled most of those duties). Phife felt part of the allure of Tribe was the mystique since everything was credited to Tribe as a whole.
Anyone who is a true hip-hop head knows what Tribe brought to the game and it is kind of sad that such a positive group will have its legacy defined as "Beats, Rhymes and Fights." Guess we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Tip seems like one of those creative cats who is possibly a little erratic personality-wise. I think creativity and some degree of dysfunction go hand in hand, though.
