I really hate that the british media have been building the England team up because Australia are currently shit at cricket. But us whinging poms don't do confidence - we only do cynicalism and put ourselves down about our chances. I fear an epic fail from england but whatever happens, it's gonna be a fun few months and I'm looking forward to it. Shame I have no real way to watch it unless I can find some dodgy streaming of it.

It's classic British media for you. Look at how ridiculously the England football team is built up time after time. However, there are some strong characters in the cricket team and they're under good leadership, and there's no denying nearly everyone has shown signs of hitting top form, albeit in warm-up matches.

Still, as many have said, if England avoid defeat in the first test I'd back them all the way. Personally, I expect a win within 4 days and a double Strauss century. Over-confidence? Probably.

we should do well but it wasnt really expected that we'd win last time and lets face it we should have lost the first test in wales.

i'm officially gathering splinters in my arse by sitting on the fence and saying it'll be tighter than everyone thinks

Using the Skyplayer from sky.com

You can actually just sign up and subscribe to watch stuff online without having a dish or anything. Not cheap tho. But...

A work around might be if you know anyone who subscribes to the sports package and ask if you could use their login online for the games. I think that'd break some T&C's but *ahem* I ain't telling anyone ;-)

Yeah I'm not holding high hopes for us winning the ashes. The current aussie team is just disappointing and frustrating.

But after 17 years or so of being at the top of cricket, something's gotta give. We'll be shit for a few years then get better again.

I fell asleep before a ball could be thrown. Woke up and thought I'll watch it via the netbook in bed. Turns out skyplayer hates ubuntu with no work around. Not really read any reviews yet as just woke up but glancing at headlines, England didn't do too well. But there is a loooooooooooooooooooong way to go yet.

i thought the expectation might be a bit much for us at the start but i'll take 260 all out considering siddle got a hat trick.

yeah i've read some comments and reports of it being a disastrous start and that this test is gone. ridiculously over the top! it's a modest total but there's enough there for me. obviously you're not going to get hit with a hat-trick every innings, fair play to siddle and the gabba crowd in that respect, but KP and Bell look like they'll be scoring runs, Cook's confidence will be up, and you can practically guarantee hundreds from Strauss and Trott throughout the tour - ideally in the next innings! and i've not mentioned the bowlers...fresh start tonight (tomorrow morning in aus), let's see how we go.

our bowling is our only hope for this ashes series. i was glad to see siddle get a hat-trick as they happening rarely nowadays. he's legit.

i thought in the 09 tests he was the only one from your lot who showed any taters. Its always nice to see a hat trick whoever takes it.

aussies'll do well to take a lead of 50 into 2nd innings. As long as bowlers pull their finger out.

225-8 at time of typing.

I turned it on this morning with Hussey and Haddin on crease with England in the driving seat but then I saw no wickets for a while which started me to think 'here they go again'. Both out now tho.

It's only the first day and we're only on the 1st Innings but I'm still predicting a 2 nil lead by monday (y)

I walk to work from the Casino in Perth and saw Panesar and some other typically nondescript English cunt out and about for a run yesterday. They were waiting to cross a fairly busy road as I passed, so I took out my headphones and said "Carn the Poms! Murder those fucking Aussies!". They laughed. It was a good way to start the day, actually.

268 all out. Probably more than wanted after start.

Not sure how many overs gone - maybe 10 left? Just keep in and try and get 30+ on the board.

Adam

391 lead

Nicely played Hussey. And Tremlett.

400 is possible tho. But 200 all out is also possible. Exciting stuff!

i'm happy at present, but seeing out the day is crucial. either pietersen or trott are capable of kicking on, preferably both. if they're both at the crease tomorrow morning i'd say we have a good shout.

would like strauss to be there, but what can you do, the openers at least got the runs going and we're in a competitive position at the moment. BUT SEE OUT THE DAY ENGLAND, NOTHING SILLY!

edit: i should have just said nothing. needless shot KP, for fucks sake

I was thinking with 3 wickets gone. You probably could rely on Bell, Collingwood and Trott to make 300+ and the rest can pick up the other 91. Not now tho.

Be interesting tomorrow tho, Australia clear favourites for this test but if they come out all firing they could just tire with an older ball and the runs could tick away. Plenty of time in Englands favour and if ponting is injured - but that is about it for plus points.

i fancy a double hundred from bell ably supported by prior, ever the optimist!

I stayed up to watch the beginning, after 8 wickets I decided time for sleep. Staying up to about 4am to watch the inevitable wasn't something I fancied doing.

England got ferkin smeshed.

Hope it will continue, although I'm skeptical

England still have the advantage tho. One win to retain the ashes is all that is needed.

It'd be nice to see an out right winner tho and most of the smart money will probably still be on England (y)

Was good to see Johnson come out of the gates screaming but. He had been all but written off. I think the WACA is the most fuckerous of the local pitches; things will definitely be a bit different over east. Should be good (y)
