We have 18 family members coming over tomorrow. We are running a 10k turkey trot race in the morning and then we are going to EAT.
Turkey, stuffing, Mac & Cheese, brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, peas, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, pumpkin squares & cheesecake. Cold Presidente beer and various red wines. I have the Wii set-up and another TV for football. It will be hectic but it should be fun:eek:
In-laws, parents, brothers, brother in laws, sister in laws and kids ranging in ages of 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12.

Share your holiday and I wish you all the best and I hope you all get the big end of the wishbone.

Cheers, Yeti (y)

I'm starting out going to see my old high school football team play tomorrow at 10 then home to a dinner with my immediate family and then off to have some more at my sisters' in-law's family and back home again for deserts and coffees.

I never really liked Thanksgiving too much growing up, but as I get older and I enjoy being with my family more and more I appreciate it as a good holiday to actually be Thankful for the simple pleasures in life - family, friends and good food, nothing more. Its nice that everyone here can be a part of it regardless of religion or whatever else. Pass the corny(y)

I heard a quote once that went something like....family members travel hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles for Thanksgiving to see people they only see once a year. When the leave they realize why the only see them once a year. I think it a Johnny Carson quote.

the munsters:
"The stars were mostly well-behaved, with some notable exceptions. Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis, stars of The Munsters, appeared in the 1964 parade in their ghoulish costumes, riding along in their 'Munster Koach' car. Neither star was very amused. Gwynne was high on 'nerve medicine' and began cursing at the crowd. Passing the hosts Greene and White in the media box, Herman Munster fired off a rude expletive in their direction."

I'm not doing any family stuff this year to my delight. I'm going to a potluck with other thanksgiving orphans. so this year I won't have to sleep on a couch, witness a screaming match, or be yelled at by anyone.

I'm just going to make delicious baked sweet potatoes with chipotle, eat other people's foods, drink some whiskey, and shoot the shit. it'll be mostly dudes, so I won't get in trouble for playing cards instead of cleaning up immediately after dinner like last year.

I worked last night...and am working tonight. Just about to hit the hay so I can be well rested to work another 12 hour shift tonight. I don't mind working the holiday...and it makes me very thankful for my health. My patients I took care of last night were quite nice, so looking forward to heading back into work tonight.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

It is funny because I have times when I just want to be alone and all people drive me insane. I can see Turd's point. I guess I decide that I need to enjoy my family warts and all. Hell, they have also put up with me all these years.
The image of Turd huddled in a corner wearing a sweater and the heat cranked up to 80 degrees listening to someone talk about how the Cowboys have not lived up to expectations is funny.

Oh, I want sweet potatoes with chipotle!

Those videos are great!

I'm having about a dozen people over today (will probably be more)

Cooking the Judy Bird (http://www.latimes.com/theguide/holiday-guide/food/la-fo-saltedturkey,0,3863680.story) a 20 pounder.

I don't drink but the house is overflowing with high price booze provided by my relatives visiting from Alaska.

It's all starting in about an hour, the turkey has been in the oven for two hours now and I'm going to go peel a bag of potatoes after I hit "submit reply".

I sort of hate Thanksgiving because it reflects on my organizational skills. I was smart enough to over buy food but not smart enough to clean up earlier so I've been vacuuming, dusting, organizing and looking for plates, utensils, gadgets and fuck all the past 5 hours.

It's OK I'll ply my guests with voluminous booze to help them cope

At work today. I took the Belt Parkway thinking traffic would be smooth. Fucking got on it and I could see miles of cars ahead of me.

I drove 5 miles doing not even 10 miles an hour and decided to have my GPS reroute me through the backstreets and made it to work in an hour and a half, which normally takes me only 30 minutes.

I had 5 hour old pizza from the only place that's open near my work. I get off at 11.

Not really a bad day because I'm getting the double-time.

White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need

We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?

Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom a stab in the back
Women and children and cowards attack

Run to the hills, run for your lives
Run to the hills, run for your lives

Soldier blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old

Run to the hills, run for your lives

Oh, I want sweet potatoes with chipotle!

do it! it was an experiment, but it was a hit! I just got some chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, and mixed a bit of the sauce with some butter and brown sugar and cinnamon, melted it, then chopped up 3 of the peppers and mixed it in. Then I drizzled it on chunks of sweet potato in a pan. I roasted pecans with cinnamon and brown sugar and crumbled them up and put them on top with marshmallows. then baked it all.

I don't remember exactly how it all went down because I didn't know what I was doing, but it came out purty good. the boyf said, "best sweet potatoes I have ever eaten". then at the end of the night, he was stealing more to take home in a ziplock baggie, and I was like, "you know, I can always make more". ha

I have copied your instructions and I will be trying it. It sounds like you cook a lot like me. Experimenting with recipes can turn into something pretty tasty. My wife just made a spicy salsa that sticks with you for hours...in a good way not a bad way.
Anyway, I am glad your sweet potatoes with chipotle was a big hit. I bet that guy that took home the ziplock bag was eating them at 2 am last night when he had the munchies Ha!

I cooked the best Turkey I've ever tasted in my life and it was pretty much unanimous with my family and friends... that alone made it a great Thanksgiving.

Here's a shout out to chef Judy Rodgers and the LATimes (http://www.latimes.com/theguide/holiday-guide/food/la-fo-turkey19-2008nov19,0,7113705.story) for the recipe.

I was in Oaxaca and forgot it was Thanksgiving. I stuffed myself on oaxacan hot chocolate, michaldas, mezcal, mole, and chorizo all day though.
