I re-read an interview(clash magazine) of the beastie boys from july 2009 and the interviewer stated after his 1st listen of "hot sauce committee" it sounded stylelistically inbetween albums 3 and 4.
also the beasties stated it was a very purple patch for them recording HSC so thats why they had enough material for two albums.

Might be. The only thing that sounds like either of those albums is each of those albums, though. Since interviewers are fucking idiots unless they're Parkey.

There's apiece in the new Q, very short, but I think they have a few new quotes, though not much. Mike D:

(on part 2 replacing part 1)

'I liken it to the subway train system. Let's say a train starts running late. Instead of letting it catch up, they take the train behind it and rush it through express-style so it stays on schedule. This is exactly how we're operating.'

(on yauch)

'There's been nights he's outlasted us in the studio'

(effect on the record)

'Serious illness does frame fart jokes differently. But at the same time, more than ever, we want to enjoy ourselves and make people happy.'

(album sound)

'Some of it sounds like 1989 hip hop, some of it sounds like the future. Guitars that sound like keyboards and sub bass that sounds like a torpedo.'

(makes some noise)

sounds like 'a lot of shit no ones heard before.'

Mike also adds: 'I figure at this point, anybody who's still in is in. I always feel like what we're doing is so out-there it's kind of a miracle if anybody gets it.'

The article confirms Make Some Noise as the first single, that they're still mixing at Oscilloscope, and speculates that we'll never see part 1. Sorry there's lot of new info, but I thought it may be of interest (though not warranting it's own thread).

And, obviously, I don't have a fucking scanner.

what does "shit on necks" mean? you've used that term a few times now. is that geographical lingo, or a personal expression?

^ Oh, so I guess they're not finished.

Anyway, I can't really express how good it is that Mike D offered serious points of view in those quotes Dave posted. It's fucking rad to hear him talking positive, talking happy, building up the album. Late studio nights. Anybody who is in at this point is indeed well and truly in. Those snippets are a huge deal to me /geek (y)
