I think this will be the more "traditional hip hop" sounding of the two projects Kanye had been dividing his time between over the last year. If 'The Joy' is any indication of what to expect it should be a pretty awesome album. That's My Bitch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW_Q5uqqvEA) isn't really my cup of tea, but I'm hoping it's less indicative of the overall sound. It's not bad, though.
I heard Preemo really will be contributing to this one. We'll see, I guess.

still not feeling it, i'm just not sure it works, it'd be interesting to hear your reactions on a lesser known artist using that tune like that. if you guys are referring to two's rhymes then fair do's.I'm not an expert on all that but i just cant relate to the beats..yet.

I liked it better when Masta Killa flipped it for D.T.D. but I do like how they rapped over something that is barley a beat. It's cool/different. Not my two fave artists, but hip hop needs people to try new sounds. so win/draw?

i think a beat can be made out of anything , i just feel the largeness of the sampled tune just overpowers them a bit.
I have listened to it about 20 times now and its still a struggle.:(

i like the beat.
but man jay z annoys the shit out of my now a days. hes so overrated. his rhymes and stuff might be alright. but his voice and rhyme style aggravate me. i dont think he is any where near one of the top rappers in the game nor ever has been.
he lucked out being one of the only rappers from the 90s to be able to change with the times and still be relevant. i give him props for that. but he just bores the shit out of me. too many d riders.

I'm with you Guy...i have trouble with rhymes over vocal samples...this would have a been a great tune with a different beat. Similar to this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nR9VHkQxHw I just can't get over the vocals.
Any who imma buy this album just to keep feeding Kanye respect so he keeps making music...When he's on...he's untouchable.

making beats and creating music i think kanye is about at the top of the game right now.
as a rapper i think he sounds amateurish. but comparing to him to what else is out hes certainly listenable.

I have to say that i applaud the idea and trying to push it and do different stuff. I'm just disappointed that i dont feel it. not the sum of its parts imo.

just not the special to me.
benefited from tons of promotion and always getting hot radio/club friendly beats. keeps him in the public eye. keeps people talking about him. and thinking that because hes got all these hits that hes one of the best to ever do it.

Yeah he was basically nothing special in the 90s (RD is good, but not that good), and then he benefitted hugely from Just, Kanye and the Neptunes (and to a lesser extent Timberland). Biggie's death seems to have helped him a lot, too.
Not to completely downplay him, he has some amazing tracks. There is just so much utter shit in his catalogue for the best rapper alive, and sometimes when he raps I think he's actually a stupid person. But, he straddles a very unique niche in rap: too soft to be a gangster, to hood to be a backpacker.
Of course, any argument disputing his reign requires one to name five rappers that are better, and those five are inevitably torn down by Jay-Z proponents who start contrasting on the basis of flow, charisma, sales, longevity, adaptability, beat selection, content, writing etc etc. They probably have a point.
Still, this album should be good. Otis is amazingly dope.
tl;dr It's weird to me how Jay-Z is so highly revered.

You're kind of contradicting yourself there. I agree that RD is overrated, but he was definitely something special in the 90s even before he jacked Young Chris' flow. The fact that he worked with all the people you mentioned and was so tight with Big kind of proves that.

Chuck D's response to "Otis". (http://youtu.be/161ZRrJZESA)
In fairness, I like the beats/flow and all of WTT, but the consistent talking about how rich they are is a bit jarring these days.

No Church in the Wild is incredible. Not feeling anything else other than Otis.
I will say I respect the fuck out of them for going the unexpected route production wise, and just the overall feel. It definitely sounds more like a unique entity than just a Jay and Kanye album. I just can't get that excited about it.
