New album is pretty good. He is fairly prolific but by his standards he has took his time with this one i think and it shows. Some of his other stuff is a bit lightweight and too trancey for me. But this is better, funkier and grittier . Lovin it.
Your thoughts?

Think I'll be getting this come payday. His stuff sounds less and less like music for coked up chavs with each album, which is a very good thing (y)

i like these quite a bit. quite a bit. animal rights in particular.
if i like these tracks, what other artists might i like? i know i like some electronic music a lot and i know i like other electronic music quite a bit less and for the life of me i can't seem to articulate it or narrow it down any better than that. i just end up listening to mixes or internet radio and forget to pay attention to the artists or titles so for the most part i don't have a clue who i like and who i don't
but i like those!

No, Aid! That's far too dirty for Bob! But if you must, I'll add some aswell.
LASERKRAFT 3DDDDDDDD - Polyester (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzBszTIMOLA)
und mehr, NEIN, MANN! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBjDZMJUduo).
I could go on forever, but I won't.
thanks for these - that's all the kind of stuff i'm looking for.
what kind of music would you say that is exactly? something more specific than just "electronic", if even that's the right word
also nein mann is really catchy and that video's great. does laserkraft 3d have more than two songs?

some good suggestions there. Looking at the labels rather than the bands isnt a bad idea when it comes to techno.
Just checking out itunes or whatever and seeing things people also bought isnt the worst idea. I have found plenty of new stuff that way.
Boys noise - took me a long time to get into them but they are pretty good.
Also Simian Mobile Disco, get the first and third albums.
Few more slightly older school names:
Futureshock
Hardfloor
Slam
Tony Thomas
Autechre

I found spotify to be one of the best ways of finding new bands/music as they have a related artists bit so you can just keep going for hours listening to more and more obscure artists. have got so much more in electro type music in the last few years and there's so much amazing stuff out there, wish i had more free time to go dance my face off:)

djdownload.com is a good un, you have to register but its good for finding really current stuff of all kinds of genre. You only get like a 2min preview of each tune but a lot of the tunes are available "elsewhere".

Electro House is the specific term, I believe, but we can just call it electro (y)

i fuckin hate all the splitting of stuff but its a necessary evil. I would say that after searching for electro and electro house that electro is usually a bit slower and minimal. Its a tricky business. But there's so much of it that crosses a few. I dont think there is any better way of doing it than trawling thru shitloads of it. Its how it used to be done in the record shops, just listening to hours and hours of shit to find a few good tunes.
Some record labels, sites and acts i thought of:
www.boomkat.com
Label - Soma Records
Label - Cheap Thrills Records
Track - Fake Blood - Mars
Artist - Herve
Artist - Booka Shade
Track - Screwdriva - HArdfloor
Artists - Kenny LArkin (proper old school detroit stuff)
Artist - Laurent Garnier (well worth exploring but its a bit of a minefield)
Artist - King Roc
thanks for all of this, i've got some listening to do. i'm in the middle of a very boring project at work (which still beats being unemployed so i'm not complaining mind) so i've got the time to figure out what i like

another thing is to check out remixes that acts you like have done and that could lead you in right direction. I dont mean sell out remixes but a lot of similar acts tend to remix each other
but to be honest you could do yourself favour and check out all Deadmau5 stuff cos he has chucked out loads in a relatively short space of time. 6 or 7 albums in 3/4 years.

You can't even place all of Deadmau5's(?!) music in one category, he does vary quite a bit. I think I first started listening to him mid 2008, and since then, I can't get enough.

Ohh he's got some dub on the go :D
Your right tho, he is a sick producer not generally falling into the dubstep category, I just meant that after discovering him I dug into various electronic genres and found myself really digging Dub.
Datsik/Bassnectar/Excision are all worth checking out.
