The Beastie Boys short film by Adam Yauch sucked!!! Endless and ultimately pointless cameos in an extremely vapid overlong music vid spoof.

Check this out guys. This review gives some good details........... I am wondering what is up with their comments on Yauch. They talk as if he's lost his mind lol. :p
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2011/01/sundance-2011-fight-for-your-right-revisited-brings-the-beastie-boy-revolution.html
But the short movie that a large contingent of the opening night showing had come specifically to see was "Fight for Your Right Revisited," directed by an individual named Adam Yauch. That would be the guy better known as MCA from the seminal hip-hop trio the Beastie Boys.
Yauch's aliases are myriad. He sometimes goes by an alter ego named Nathaniel Hornblower to direct short films and movies such as "Gunnin’ for That #1 Spot" and "Awesome I … Shot That." And at the indie movie-distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, he goes by the title chief executive.
Yauch directed the 20-minute movie as a kind of bizarro companion piece to the Beasties' smash 1986 frat boy anthem "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBShN8qT4lk) The film follows actors impersonating the group in period-perfect costumes in the denouement to the wild party (where pies are thrown, Spanish Fly is dumped in punch and a TV is famously sledge-hammered by then-Def Jam co-president Rick Rubin) depicted in the video.
But not just any actors. Seth Rogen portrays the Beasties' Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Elijah Wood embodies Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and a trash-talking Danny McBride channels '80s-era Yauch via a four-day growth of beard and sleazy leather jacket.
The trio rob a bodega, spray beer all over passersby on a New York-esque (read: Hollywood movie studio back lot) street and generally raise havoc wherever they go, terrorizing a who's who of movie big shots in the process: Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Will Forte among them -- but also Kirsten Dunst, Rashida Jones and Orlando Bloom (wearing a vintage Def Jam jacket in homage to the group's former record label). But the Beastie party mayhem doesn't stop there. The "Beasties" are picked up by "metal chicks," portrayed by Chloe Sevigny and Maya Rudolph, with whom they ingest whippets and drop liquid acid.
The whole, ahem, brouhaha culminates with a confrontation with none other than the "Beastie Boys from 25 years in the future": Will Ferrell (as Ad-Rock), John C. Reilly (as Mike D) and a petulant Jack Black as MCA. A wild break dance contest turns into an actual pissing contest that is broken up by a trio of New York cops –- the real Beastie Boys.
The thing is so meta-narrative, it's not even funny -- or it's especially funny, depending how you look at it. But the film represents a particularly surprising turn for Yauch, who long ago repudiated his party-hearty past to become a somewhat humorless adherent to Tibetan Buddhism.
As well, the short provides a primer for the forthcoming Beastie Boys album "Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1," which was originally slated for release in 2009 but was shelved when Yauch was diagnosed with a tumor in his parotid gland. (Earlier this month, the rapper was deemed to be cancer-free.) New songs "Make Some Noise," "Say It" and a remix of "Too Many Rappers" (featuring Queens MC Nas) can be heard beneath the antic mayhem on-screen.
Question is, what next? The thing's not online yet. Does Yauch/Oscilloscope put it out on Vevo? As a stand alone DVD? Judging by the blogosphere interest surrounding the release of the above photo of Rogen, Wood and McBride in Beastie drag, there is a healthy interest in this project from the group's core constituency: sneakerheads and hipsters, backpack hip-hop aficionados and "Dad-rap" fans (like your humble correspondent).

looks like it's comparable to "A day In The Life of Hornblower"- one of Adam's pet pieces to hone his writing chops, that isn't universally received and more of a big inside joke.
here's more on the cameos
Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, and Elijah Wood: Playing Mike D, MCA, and the most adorable Ad-Rock ever, respectively, the trio stumbles out of the party at dawn, then goes on a slow-mo destruction spree, tossing beers at people and breaking into a bodega.
Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci: The parents whose absence allowed the party to happen in the first place. A suspicious Sarandon tries to blame the Beasties for the wanton destruction, using pie remnants as proof.
Rashida Jones: The first of the short's many, many two-second cameos, Jones walks down the street, is come on to by the Beasties, and says, "You wish, turkeys."
Will Arnett: If you're still in the throes of Arrested Development withdrawal, enjoy Arnett essentially playing G.O.B. here (expensive suit and indignant "Come on!" included).
Adam Scott: A cabdriver. This is the point in the short where the audience started murmuring the names of the celebrities they recognized, so there was a lot of, "That's Adam Scott!" (and just as much "Who's Adam Scott?").
Rainn Wilson: A churchgoer, he is offended by the Beasties' post-party antics.
Ted Danson: The maitre d' of a café that the Beasties terrorize, and between him and Steve Buscemi as the establishment's waiter, the recipient of most of the audience's "Hey, I recognize that famous celebrity who is making a two-second cameo" goodwill.
Amy Poehler, Roman Coppola, Shannyn Sossamon, Mary Steenburgen, Alicia Silverstone, Laura Dern, Milo Ventimiglia, and Jody Hill: All patrons of the café, Poehler and Steenburgen are lucky enough to get close-ups, but the rest of the actors were there to add barely glimpsed celebrity flavor.
Jason Schwartzman: Another café patron, dressed as Vincent Van Gogh, for some reason.
Chloë Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst, and Maya Rudolph: This is the point where the short started to weirdly resemble Madonna's video for "Music," as the Beasties clamber into town cars with three colorfully wigged metal chicks, who indulge in all manner of illegal activity (drugs, stabbing) with them. All it needed was a Sacha Baron Cohen cameo.
David Cross: Cross reprises his role (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kdThLmS4Ig) as Nathaniel Hornblower, the pseudonymous alter ego of director Adam Yauch. Complicated? Perhaps, but you only get three seconds of him anyway.
Orlando Bloom: Credited as "Johnny Ryall," he would appear to be the character from the Beasties' track from Paul's Boutique, except that Orlando Bloom is way too pretty to play a homeless alcoholic.
Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black: Arriving in a Delorean, the three play time-traveling versions of the older Beasties, with a cowbell-striking Ferrell as Ad-Rock, Reilly as Mike D, and Black as MCA (or, as the younger Beasties put it, "The ghosts of License to Ill future"). It isn't long before the Beasties of both generations get in a dance-off, which culminates in a literal, endless pissing contest.
Adam Horovitz, Mike D, Adam Yauch: Finally, the actual Beasties appear as cops, hauling the faux Beasties away in a paddy wagon driven by Martin Starr. Still, their most significant contribution to the short might be the new, thumping tracks on the soundtrack, including a remix of "Too Many Rappers," featuring Nas.

Who cares if some people gave the short a negative review. It’s not a review about you as a person. People can dislike the Beastie Boys and their side projects. Fight for Your Right revisited is not an extension of your personality, so I am not sure why you would be worried if people didn’t like it.

Okay good dude!! I know for me personally as a fan I like to read good reviews on an artist I admire and so I said I was happy the good outweighed the bad. ;)
And why would I be worried? I never said I was. I just explained that I read comments from fans saying they heard it was really horrible. So I linked them to all of the good reviews from MTV and said well it can't be that bad with reviews like that!
I think it's great if you don't care what folks think of the BB's side projects but I am also a Adam Yauch fan and I mean a fan of the writer/director sooo anything he does solo I really want to see it do well! Now if there's something wrong with that well then sorry not much else I can try and explain on the matter!
Anyway I am wondering mainly what will happen next with this project and how it will tie into the new album. I hope we hear something soon about that!!!

Call me excited :D
"Say It" is particularly is heavy with distortion, plus a looser flow than expected from the trio. "Make Some Noise" seems borrowed from an earlier time in their career, and perfect for breaking windows with trash cans, fizzing cans of beer and human bodies. The Eccles Theatre this morning brrrred with bass and the occasional curse word.
Like a few other music videos that have debuted recently -- including Kanye's "Runaway" -- the Beastie Boys are lifting the curtain on more than a single song within one piece of video work, and the result is a cohesion in what to expect from the full-length. And while the short itself will be getting a once-over by another HitFix crit, I'm at least heartened to hear full-bodied, rock-arranged new tracks from the Beasties. "Hot Sauce Committe" is starting to sound pretty hot.

It's great that you're a huge fan of the beasties but you haven't seen the short, right? How do you know which reviews are accurate? A review is just someone's opinion. Unless you were at Sundance you don't have enough information to form your own opinion yet.
