Is that when the sun goes between the earth and the moon?

LMAO, I had no idea that existed. I am using that on some folks lol.
yeah there's an eclipse tonight
last night depending on where you are
Moon is also closer than it normally is atm so it should look bigger than you're gonna see it for a while.
It's also the winter solstice today. Merry solstice shamans!

The lunar eclipse is when the Earth is positioned between the sun and the moon. You never quite get the moon in total darkness because the Earth’s atmosphere refracts sunlight leaving a rainbow patterned dispersion of light spilling into its shadow. This is why the eclipsed moon often appears red (and also why a setting/rising sun appears red).
In the UK (and many other places), this will be a selenehelion, which is where both the setting sun and the eclipsed moon are visible at the same time in opposite sides of the sky. It sounds like that should not be possible but it happens because of the atmosphere refracting effect which makes the sun appear higher in the sky than it really is (much like fish in water are not quite where they appear to be due to the water refraction).
Also, this is occurring on the winter solstice, but this just impacts the tilt of the Earth relative to the sun so should not affect the mechanics of the eclipse (I don’t think).

The most unimpressive thing about a lunar eclipse is that the moon goes away every single month without the need for an eclipse. OH WOW, THE MOON IS GONE FROM SIGHT!
