After seeing the movie a second time I have a scant few rants.
I realize that I am too big of a fan of the Tron Franchise to critique the film.
Honestly the film could have sucked huge dicks and I would probably been like "meh, ok, it was cool!", kind of like a loyal spouse who overlooks the social flaws of his loved one.

Anyways, here is my Beef on the film:

Base jumping is not cool.

The travel into the grid (the laser) and it's transfer felt anti-climactic compared to the first film. I liked the way it digitized shit in strips, you got the feeling that it was actually unbuilding it in one place and rebuilding it in the digital world. Come to think of it, they didn't explain it at all in this film, I imagine a person who never saw Tron 1 must have been lost.

Quorra was a Disney Princess. I've arrived at this decision and actually, I'm OK with it. It's a Disney film after all. She is bubbly, giggly, and wide eyed. A Disney Princess. But then so was the chick from Tron 1. Honestly, I don't recall her character's name. Thus my forgiveness of this character.

I thought it was retarded how Quorra ended up in the Real World in the end. It was fucking stupid. I keep praying it was only a figment of Sam's imagination. It would have been so much cooler if he would have retreated to his awesome Garage/House/Loft and logged onto a computer and opened up a chat program with her. It would have communicated she was alive and real without jumping the sci-fi shark and making her into some sort of sucky "Pinnochio" character.

Bitching aside, I thought Dillinger's son was a pretty cool inclusion. I'm excited to see how that pans out in the next film.

Also, The Ship they were riding on was a Slave Ship that was actually a stored Cache which I thought was clever as shit.

Last, I didn't hate Sam Flynn as much as I thought I would.

The End.

Dusty Brain, I am curious to see what you thought of the film. Don't hold back.

the next film. surely not.

balls to it, i'll post my review here:

saw this last night, first 3d film for me.

Right then:

Story: wank
Visuals: awesome
Soundtrack: the biggest compliment i can pay Daft Punk is that i forgot it was them and it just sounded like a good film score with a couple of bangers thrown in.
Acting: Toilet. Michael Sheen has now played another classic british historical figure. He's done Tony Blair, David Frost , Brian Clough and now he's done David Bowie.

It was very slow and the plot was crap and there wasnt enough action scenes but it looked great and was just about worth it.

It's not even incredulity like the movie was shit; I actually don't believe he's that into it because he doesn't know a characters name from the first one, and also because the 'franchise' is two movies and heaps of tat. So I actually don't believe it.

Really? What can't you believe?
I am the biggest Tron fan on the east coast I think, unless that fat guy with the body suit lives out here which I doubt.
I had been waiting a long time to see this sequel, like since 1982 long time.

Anyways, I feel your sentiments about the film, like I said I have clouded rose-colored glasses of the film. However, if you look back at the original 1982 version you'll notice the acting and story were very basic and underdeveloped.

Honestly it's Syd Mead's designs that kept it alive for me all these years, it's nice to see some of his concept work showing up in this movie. Syd Mead is a fucking genius.

Also, I am fairly certain they are making a sequel. I know ppl at disney who have been talking about how this movie is planned to be a trilogy of sorts for them. Here's an article supporting that rumor, it's the writer's from Lost again, thus the nebulous nature of the screenplay. (http://www.movieweb.com/news/NENvtPNThl0dRN)

I actually don't believe he's that into it because he doesn't know a characters name from the first one

I checked it out and her name was Lori (program name Yori) whenever they spoke her name it sounded all mushed together like a yell and her character was very 1 dimensional anyways.

Same. I thought I'd have hate seeping out of my pores but he passed.

Really I just enjoyed the excuse to watch something Tron (with a Daft Punk soundtrack no less) even if it wasn't the best movie ever. My favorite parts were the action scenes sans dialogue and all music because of the fun visuals. I think I enjoyed the lightcycle scene the most.

Also when I went to Disneyland/California Adventure they had Flynn's arcade with only the old school games and music. I hung out in there a while. Fuck yeah. (y)

That arcade was cool. They had it set up at comic con last year and I played my share of that sweet-ass vector star wars game.

I recall when I met you in SD years ago you said you had not seen the original 1982 Tron and I was somewhat shocked. Glad to see you have come around to appreciate it!
