View Full Version : New Year Resolutions 2011

be the change you want to see
I'm still blind
get rid of my car
I crashed it so kinda did that by proxy.
Stop using the top 4 supermarkets and anywhere that introduces a loyalty card
Mostly. Used Tesco about three times, Sainsburys once I think - both out of convenience and no/little other choice. No 'big shops' at any of the top supermarkets tho (y)
2011 I'm aiming for working less and holidaying more.
Anyone else made any?

From 2010:
I don't think I made any resolutions for last year because it was just days before New Years when mr.p got the China job offer - so basically the whole year was really taken up with moving and getting settled. My resolutions this year are pretty basic:
- continue Mandarin lessons and be reasonably conversationally fluent by the end of the year
- travel outside of Shanghai to see more of the country
Hmm. Well I haven't really continued Mandarin lessons per se, but I've been using what I do know lots and practicing in real-life, learning a bit more here and there. Still not as fluent as I would like to be but I get by OK. Traveling - no, that really hasn't happened at all I'm sorry to say. Largely though that has to do with the fact that I spent a full 4 months out of the year in the US, which is quite a lot of time (not to mention money) really.
Also I'm doing a 'booze-free' January, maybe stretching as far as until Chinese New Year (14 Feb). Give my liver a bit of a holiday and to try to cut some empty calories out of my diet, as I've definitely put on a few pounds since moving here and I do drink more than I really ought to.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I remember that idea. Well, that sucked. I made it until about the 24th. Then my daughter had a very messy, very public toddler tantrum/emotional meltdown outside the arena after the Disney on Ice show, and after throwing her into a taxi and getting her home, I went to a friend's house and drank about a gallon of cabarnet sauvignon.
Haven't given too much thought yet to this year. Probably the same as last really - work on the language, travel more. Get a bit more fit too, I am definitely starting to feel my age, and I can't say as I care for it very much!

Lots of things!
But first, to buy my honda fit in february
to travel to Europe and Porto de Galinhas hihiiiiiii
be sarcastic with assholes, especially the girls I work with
to be a better daughter
to read more
to get rid of ugly things in my body
and stuff like that. hihihihi!:D

2010 is the year i need to stop putting off all of my major house projects and tell all the assholes in my life to straighten up or piss off.
i did get a bunch of stuff taken care of, at least as much as my wallet could take. as far as the assholes go, i don't know why i was so angry but i know i definitely jumped on a few people for being jerks.
oh, and maybe finally get myself a raise. that would make the other items a bit easier then...
i did get a raise, although it was sort of random and not mentioned by anyone. i remember looking at my paystub back in february to get my guns loaded for a meeting with the boss and i realized a raise had already been applied.
for this year now....i am lining myself up to get back into tae kwon do and will be signing up for a gym near my house in an attempt to get back in shape this winter. the eventual goal is to set a new personal record for the half marathon at home in may.
What style of Tae Kwon Do did you do jabumbo? I did the TAGB style which isn't the ITF olympic style, generally the old WTF style. I went back for one lesson a few weeks ago but decided against it, put energy/money into other sports instead - like swimming and snowboarding :-)
It is the best martial art that I've tried or read about trying tho.

last year:
eat healthy
exercise more
volunteer more
hmm....I've exercised more and was volunteering more...but that has slipped in the last few months. Eating healthy....sometimes.
this year I would like to continue last year's resolutions. I'm thinking of looking into different fitness options. This year I started running and yoga...want to continue that but want to find some sort of aerobics class or something.
hoping to travel more again this year.....

This year it was to eat healthy and maintain it all year and excercise. Well I succeeded and have stayed on track with that so I guess it will just be to watch my money better and not spend it on everything I see!

One of my resolutions is to take piano lessons. I think a single man at my age should be prepping for a life of bachlorhood. An apartment with dark colored furniture and wood flooring along with a bar filled with interesting bottles of alcohol and a quiver of appropriate glasses and me sitting at my baby grand, playing April in Paris or Clair de Lune with a bottle of bourbon and my tie undone waiting for one of my many single stewardess or art collectors to stop by for an evening of passion and hours of conversation.
I took piano lessons but they were unfulfilling because I had to use a keyboard instead of an actual piano to practice with. Going to lessons was like going to a beautiful resturant with an amazing date once a week only to go back home to eat fast food and watch porn daily. Until I can get a place where I can have a piano, I'll have to rethink my future lair and hobbies.
2011 is going to be full of races, parties, and traveling.

I don't really make resolutions. Last year I wanted to lose weight and came up with "30 by 30", i.e. lose 30 pounds by my birthday at the end of july. I didn't make it, but I lost about 20 and got into better shape than I'd been in years. I've kept it off, but I'm getting soft and slip sliding back into bad habits. I need to start working out with my wii again, as my only exercise is walking and bedroom acrobatics. ;)
other than that...um, I guess I would like to resolve to start my own business.
ah, I need to start working out again, lifting weights more regularly. I'm more fit than I was last year when I said that, but it doesn't mean I'm allowed to drink extra large mochas with whipped cream every day. If I start working out again, I can probably drink the double chocolate sugar free mochas I make at home.
Didn't start my own business yet...but I'm still working on that almost every day.
already quit smoking, so that's good. hope I don't fall off the wagon on NYE!

when i quit smoking a few months back i said i would start some sort of fitness regime in new year so i will have a go with that. Not sure what yet. I dont need to lose weight, just move what i have around a bit. I had thought about just going running but not sure thats the best thing to do.
I got a xmas card from my mate and he put that i had to put a record out in 2011. So I will have a think about that and try and get back making music again.
Watch Avatar. Still not seen it. I have had a dvd copy for 6 months and its on sky now but i still cant be arsed.

I am 34 and I want new friends too, but that's because I see too much of the ones I've got now and they are annoying me. Need new influences and activities.
2011 is going to be the year I build up some savings, work harder at boxing (I'm slow and keep getting beaten) and be very organised when it comes to people's birthdays, bills and my job, etc.

My New Year's resolution is to stop writing 2010 on my checks....
who the fuck writes checks [sic] in 2010?
it was hard for me not to type cheques there
and I hate the fact that firefox is underling cheques as incorrect spelling but I could could just change the language I suppose.

To write more letters...
To write more letters...
Do you think you live in the 19th century? Do you have a feather and inkwell?
Just kidding. Letter writing has sadly been replaced by texting and poking.
That is a good resolution.
I make fun of the cheques but I must admit I love writing and receiving letters but don't do it enough. That is a good resolution as letters can last forever (y)

Hee hee! I have lovely pink boxing gloves! I need them to retain some femininity, as the club is a dis-used warehouse down at the harbour filled with toothless men who spit on the floor all the time.
I agree letter writing is good and nice and handwritten missives are wonderful things. I have a couple of pen pals. I especially like the foreign stamps.

eating healthy/exercise
Continued doing that and still will. It's routine. And because of it I lost about 10+ pounds without really intending to since the point was to just get stronger. People compliment the work I've done. I definitely have muscle tone you can see and it rules. I like feeling strong and going through workouts, increasing the weights and challenging myself. (y)
The school thing I mentioned didn't work out the way I wanted to do to the nature of my better paying job. Despite making more, I work long hours and I ended up missing over three course sessions which results in an automatic drop from each class. So I can't go to school while working here. So for this year the plan is to go balls to the wall and just be in school full time if I can get approved the loans which is looking better this year. Fingers crossed.
If I end up an admin for the rest of my life I will implode, so I'll do what I have to in order to return to school and thus move in to a different career.
Otherwise, I want to focus more on my nerdy tumblr blog as it's resulted in a lot of opportunities.
I just applied for one of those opportunities (I was encouraged to apply by someone who works with the recruiter) and I am so nervous I might vomit. But I'm excited about that someone from the company even asked me to apply. Feels good man.

Mostly just to be a better friend...I neglected some important people/relations in the past year...for no other reason than being a lazy and/or a selfish guy...my bad...will try and affect change...hopefully bridges can be rebuilt or not...we'll see...(n)

last year:
-maintain fitness level and ramp it up
-find and move into awesome place with manfriend
-work hard, make money
-take drum lessons
-get back into karate
-climb Half Dome
-keep kicking ass
definitely did not maintain the fitness level! totally got doughy and soft this year. did move in with bf, did work hard and make $, did not take drum lessons nor get back into karate OR climb half dome (we only went to yosemite once and it was just for a couple days with old people :() but i definitely kept kicking ass. for this year:
-finally become financially independent (switching over the last few bills to be in my name today actually)
- get my ass back in shape and lose the extra 10 (the quintessential promise, i know)
- limit booze to weekends/special occasions, and cut back at that
- visit a bff in europe and jet all over the place there
- lots of vegan ambitions: new products, new blog, and a ton of new interests like bread and pastry, molecular gastronomy, slow cooking etc.
- get accepted to grad school and start anew there (cross your fingers, i won't hear back for a few months)
i still do not have the ability to make pancakes.
i can't remember if i made any resolutions last year but i hope they didn't include not getting food poisoning and spending all night puking and shitting my body weight into my friend's toilet while everyone else got drunk on champagne and lined up impatiently outside the bathroom because that's certainly what happened! and i had just finally stopped being paranoid about my digestion, too. it's kind of funny in a mike birbiglia "cancer is the funniest thing that can happen to a hypochondriac" kind of way
i also hope i didn't resolve to get rejected from the best job prospect i've had in 17 months because that's happened so far in 2011 too!
i'm sure i'm supposed to be optimistic about 2011 but that doesn't feel right somehow given the last 3 days or the 2 years before them. at least i probably didn't resolve to drink less

ah man, that is really terrible! sorry, you don't deserve that kinda strife. I had a tough enough time pooping at my friend's dinner party on saturday because the bathroom is like 3 feet from the dining room table. can't imagine being at a real party with no control over my bowels. :(
I'll ask my mom to pray for you.
fortunately they were playing rock band pretty loudly so i don't think they heard most of it. thank god for rock band
also i got to belt out rock lobster before the worst of it started so i guess there's that
still, it seemed like a pretty awesome party, i'm pretty bummed i had to spend the night like that

Jeezus, Bob!
My resolution is to talk to my friends and family more often..
Stay at my current fitness level
Take my job to the next level
Introduce girl to the family
Save enough money to buy an apartment by the end of the year
Enjoy life even more (y)
EDIT: I started doing volunteer work last year, I did it on a whim and kept doing it and have REALLY enjoyed it.. I resolve to keep the pace and find at least one day a month to do something different.

Bob that totally sucks, though. Hope your holes feel better.
yeah, i'm all better now. i even had a burrito today with no consequence. "fortunately" it started at the beginning of a 3 day weekend so i basically spent all of saturday in bed, getting up only to poop and eat (toast, not poop). i did the math and i think i spent about 32 hours in bed. sunday was weird but better. then it was back to work on monday!
oh well. i guess i can't complain about having a job to bitch about having to go to
I have been blessed with solid and regular craps in 2011.
