Baker Street is a horrendous song. It sounds like the sax guy came in one day and said "Hey man, I've got this groovy sax solo!" and your man went "Yeah I dig it, I'll just tag it onto this shit vocal I've recorded that has no tune and just sits firmly in the middle of the road."

The story in your mind is completely the opposite of the real story of the song (The sax solo had been intended for guitar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baker_Street_%28song%29#Arrangement)), The ironic part is in your final analysis you claim the song "just sits firmly in the middle of the road". Ironic because Gerry Raffertys' best song was the "Stuck in the Middle With You".

I'm not arguing about the horrendous part though, I always laughed every time I heard Baker Street. The song is always funny.
