I expect all you Yanks who watch this to be able to converse in this (http://bbs.beastieboys.com/showthread.php?t=86209) thread when you're finished watching.

I've never heard of this. I'm quite relieved to find it's not about me.
I've seen it come up on my recommendations but the title put me off. I assumed it was some american college humour type trash. I assume it's not?

The pylon comment about Christ the redeemer cracks me up everytime. I loved it.
my aunt (who lives in england) got me the DVD for christmas, i finally got around to starting it (i'm a very busy man). it's pretty amazing. from the gervais podcasts, i was kind of wondering if karl pilkington was just playing a character or something but watching this show it's pretty clear that he's actually really like that. i just love how genuinely miserable he is in every scene, like when that chinese family is feeding him toad.
i watched the first episode (the china one, obviously), i'm looking forward to seeing the rest.
i watched the india one just now (while eating, which was an unfortunate decision) and this really has to be the best travel documentary ever made. it's from the perspective of a man with the tiniest comfort zone in the world, who refuses to learn or understand or be enriched by anything he sees.
like, yeah, going to india and shitting yourself to death on a squat toilet with no paper and making cakes out of cow shit and watching a guy twist his penis around a walking stick and tuck it behind his legs is maybe not all that fun but you know, you walk away from it a better stronger person. but karl pilkington just refuses to do it. he's just constantly like "that's stupid, i don't understand that" and it's just kind of amazing to watch
i'm impressed at the patience and graciousness of everyone around him
Still not checked it out.
I'm not a fan of Ricky Gervais and I don't want it to be the typical him. I love comedy and I appreciate his talent but he isn't the british comic he could be for me, plays too much for the camera like an american comic would rather than running with his material (i'm obviously stereotyping - deal with it). Hard to explain really, he is just one of those comics I don't like I suppose.

he's not on the show very much, it's mostly just karl pilkington being tortured by foreign culture. you see ricky at the very beginning and then occasionally you hear him on the phone and that's it
here's mostly what the show is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGTIs9fvkUA

i dont think he has tried to be a british or american comedian. He's just done what makes him laugh when on form and then he made some really shit films.
And Pilkington is the key to this programme.

I just watched the Mexico episode. Watching Karl try to wrestle was hilarious. Him gagging after eating the worm was hilarious. Oh my goodness, so so funny.
