does anyone here also play bass guitar like me?
- so what are your favorite bass lines you play?
- do you have any good source for (Beastie) bass-tabs?
- which bass equipment (bass, amp, effects, etc.) do you use?
In the rehearsal room i played the following bass lines in the last couple days and really had fun ... i might record some videos and post them here or on YouTube sooner or later:
- Gratitude (i love the fuzz sound)
- Sabotage (also a nice fuzz sound but kind of hard to play the muted tones)
- Alright Hear This (excellent bass line)
- Futtermanīs Rule (also a nice riff)
- Jimmy James (still figuring out the correct tabs)
- Shake Your Rump / 33% God (that short slap part sampled by Rose Royce)
- Lay It On Me (of Paulīs Boutique album, GREAT bass line)

I used to jam out on Gratitude a lot, my friend's dad had a fuzz/flange digital amp thing that made it sound warped as fuck. There was a beat on a Chop-Shop CD we used to play the bassline over, it was too ill. Always enjoyed playing Sabotage, Tough Guy (this one is especially fun) and Time for Livin too but haven't touched a bass in over 10 years.
I think the reason I bought a bass was to play gratitude.
Plus Guns Of Brixton and Walk The Line - all pretty generic I know.
Root Down is also easy enough to play.
I have no talent whatsoever. My dad was a great guitarist, I wish I had 1% of his talent. Maybe I don't practice enough but I've been trying to pick up guitar again, get the basics down. Got a DVD with some structured lessons which I think will do me better than finding random tabs of songs I like.

Yeah I picked up Root Down trying to learn Suck My Kiss funnily enough. Props to MCA for playing it as a live cover; that's but one reason I'm jonesing for a Gala Event DVD.

Yeahhh, i forgot about Root Down ... excellent bass line, i love to play it.
I remember the plans for the Gala Event DVD ... i saw 2 Gala Events (Cologne Germany & New York City @ Hammerstein Ballroom 2007) ... but i guess the DVD will never happen ... that sucks bad.
My favorite albums are PB, CYH and IC ... you will find a lot of great bass samples from old school funk stuff. I hope Mario C. will be involved again producing more stuff with the Beasties.
