This should be a fun process, but it's been stressful as of late. We were set on Costa Rica for about a year and a half, but after speaking to friends, we've decided to go elsewhere. We initially thought a trip to Costa Rica filled with activities the locale has to offer would be great, but now we're thinking more of a relaxing getaway with a few activites sprinkled in. We're looking for a tropical destination that offers bungalows on the beach and isn't heavily populated. I'll be very disappointed if I see a fanny pack.
Help! Thanks!

I love and recommend Kauai but I don't know if they have bungalows on the beach. Its a very quiet island(no clubs or crazy night life) with plenty of activities you have to find, they don't find you like other popular destinations. Could look at a rental house on the South or West side.
If you wanted a day of crazy, you could always take a puddle jumper to another island for a day.

Tahiti and Bora Bora. It's an eight hour flight from LA, but totally worth it, IMHO.

Jamiaca's cheap for a reason.
1. There's a lot of civil unrest there lately
2. High poverty rate. Being they're soo poor, the locals are extremely aggressive. I know people who've had their bus chased by locals hawking their wares.

It's just worth it to me to pay a little more to go to another island and not have the potential of dealing with that.
