M2M lose me with thinly-veiled attempts to gain more fans of M2M, as opposed to the actual Beastie Boys. E.g. 'It's puzzling why Yauch kept the film so secret, especially from Beastie Boys fans, the audience who is most likely to appreciate the film. Yauch's only communication to fans about the film was a posting of a film still at Beastieboys.com in December.'

Yawn.

man, this article has been (blindly) holding me over for too long now!

note how under Lee Majors it says that the BBoys in the Cut accapella was also made available (without a mention of the instrumental)... That's right, I'm reopening the BBITC instrumental debate.

I truly still don't think we've heard the proper production for that joint yet.

They played it on radio 1 (zane lowe iirc) and it was the acapella over the beat that leaked with a hook from yauch thats not in the acapella. Of course that was over 2 years ago so who knows what it sounds like today. We already know tmr has been retweaked and pop your balloon and heres a little something for you were always going to sound different from the versions that weve heard. The only ones that remain potentially untouched are lee majors and bboys in the cut. Im all for redoing bboys but i hope lee majors stays as it is.

so with a lack of a release date still and 3/28 rapidly approaching, is the unofficial word on this single drop date wearing thin?

i dont think singles are often released before the record itself has a release date? do they?

Really - there's no official word that Make Some Noise (if that is even the single) will be unleashed on 3/28, as far as I can tell.
School me if I'm wrong, but everyone looking forward to 3/28 is putting all their faith on a single tweet by a radio station, right?

hmmmmm. when news on the album release hit, I just blindly assumed that the single in fact was on schedule to drop on the 28th, but you raise a great point. I wasn't aware that the only claim of this report was through a single radio station tweet. well, doesn't seem to add up. doesn't look too reliable on paper.

do the bboys usually promote the drop of a lead single release, as in they'll give us a heads-up, or is something that just happens? i mean, this is a week away essentially with no mention by anyone within the camp, label, or management.

dave790
03-20-2011, 04:37 PM
with ch-check it out it's world premiere - on the radio at least, i remember it being on some tv show? - was on radio one and they spent at least a week building it up and playing the odd a capella line. so i highly doubt it'll be around next week. though i am pretty sure make some noise has been mooted as the first single for a long time.

Chrisco83

March 28th is also 6 weeks almost to the dot to may 3rd. And typically singles come out 6 weeks before the album. So maybe there is a chance?

i just have to say, even with the little we've heard from this record thus far, it's already clear that the 'drowned in sound' track-by-track reviewer was a complete stooge. each of his reports on the existing tracks thus far have been misleading as hell. from complete delusion to just utter stupidity, this guy just created an all out poster-child for bad journalism here.

for 'make some noise' he writes: "almost Daft Punk-esque bass-line". yeah, almost. as in you must be almost deaf to draw that comparison.

'bboys in the cut': he makes sure to point out the song's "pitch-shifting vocals". pitch-shifting? seriously? i mean, that's just an outright hallucination.

'too many rappers': "The most straight up hip-hop tune in recent BB history". really? that's really the keynote observation you made for this track? straight up hip-hop?

and my personal favorite...

"lee majors": "Ad-Rock, it seems, declares “I seen your grandpa in apple bottom jeans” and successfully manages to make it a dis, an achievement in itself, frankly". yeah, it's truly a triumph when you can manage to spin an accusation about someone's grandfather wearing womens clothing as an insult. this comment just doesn't even make sense.

any one of us could have guessed what the record sounded like and written a more accurate review than this clown. how does this happen?

what a failure, this guy. (n)

dave790
03-28-2011, 06:32 AM
haha mcduff that's a funny post. i agree. although there was something he said about b-boys in the cut which i've always liked...the 'oddly satisfying muddy treatment,' i like the fact that the song has a sort of looseness and it doesn't sound too clean. then again that's probably because it's been put together by others.

that said, the rest of what he writes is ridiculous. in the same song, 'layers of fuzziness'? i also don't know if i'd describe nas' verses in too many rappers as 'highly conscious.' don't get me wrong, there are always going to be areas of disagreement with stuff like this, but as you point out, it's nearly all abysmal with regards to accurate descriptions.

The production still feels a bit flimsy (although it is a 30-second streaming snippet so it's hard to really judge how it sounds) but it definitely seems like a cool track, very 1994. Who knows when we'll get to hear all of it but hopefully sooner rather than later.

dirtydan11
03-28-2011, 12:13 PM
Mike D's flow is like nothing he's done before! How do they keep reinventing? I liked how you think MCA's verse is over.. there's music and scratching and then boom, a couple more lines and then the chorus. Makes me wonder if all the verses end like that.
And the music is multi layered with so much going on. I hope we can hear it today or get more of a taste on the main page ( if your listening MCA it would be nice since so many counted down to today) !!!

Sounds real nice, sounds like them...

I think the extra year is going to push this record over, honestly I think this release is going to be much better than what we would have originally heard. That's pretty evident in pulling BBITC and maybe even PYB, I just believe they heard, listened, revisited and tweaked just enough to put out a much stronger product.

Considering the impression that a tour isn't likely to follow this record, perhaps they're just taking it easy on the promotion; like the label just doesn't expect to make a whole lot of money off of the record.

I feel you. It feels strange enjoying this so much with the health issues in the back of my mind. Whenever I hear new music, I always think about how it will go over live / reading promotional material / etc.

I don't think they would release HSCP2 if he wasn't up for it however. I remember reading somewhere that he would stay longer in the studio than Mike and Adam. So we know he's into it.

The health is the number one priority though.

Why feel guilty? They pulled back, took care of health issues, rested, planned, plotted retweaked and are now ready to release. They're putting this out there because they're ready to put it out there.

We'll probably get more info in anything is broken when they do a few interviews, until then it seems like "all systems go"...except for a tour. And they may be working on that for later in the year.

Yeah but it isn't the same thing at all as being all systems go. Maybe MCA is as happy releasing the music as we are hearing it. I mean, bottom line, the guy has cancer. Hope he's doing ok. (y)

I would think that one of the most important thing for someone that has cancer is not to sit around and think about having cancer. Perhaps this is his opus, if nothing more its just a bunch of great distraction. I hope MCA immerses himself in music and reeps all the benefits of it that he can...i'll do my part by spending lots of money and writing useless posts waiting for new singles to drop!

MCA has been lacing the hooks as of late.
B Boys in the Cut, Pop Your Ballon, and maybe he is the hook man for Make Some Noise as well (or they could alternate).

In the Beasties Boys catalog, I'm trying to think of any other hooks he has had the main vocal on? I'm sure there is something... I'm just spacing it right now!?!

Anyway it's noice that his vocals are center stage on some of the new cuts!

i imagine the party for the right to fight hook is said by all of them. i think the clip is just a case of mca having the last part of the particular verse, i.e. his turn. i'm interested to know if anything follows the main hook, aside from the, er, noise.

This morning on KROQ's Kevin & Bean show they played the same 30-second snippet we've been hearing (edited for radio). They mentioned the song a couple times throughout their morning show, but stated that they don't have a copy yet to play. One of the hosts said that they should fire whoever gave Yauch that mic. Obviously he hadn't listened to much IC.

Still, it was nice to see a song that's not quite out yet getting recognition on such a huge station.

I agree with what a few others have said. I don’t think that MCA would do it unless he was really ready. They could have easily pushed it even further back till the summer or whenever if he wasn’t up to it. I am sure the guys have talked out a plan that will work in terms of releasing the album, promotion, shows etc.. so I just leave it in their hands and trust that whatever they decide will work out in the end.

while i am clearly no more in the know than any other schnook on these boards, I kinda get the feeling that they're just playing it safe. Yauch could just as easily be in remission and taking it hella easy. no need to exhaust himself on tour when his body requires some good 'ol fashion r&r. things like rest, routine, diet, and consistent check-ups by personal physicians aren't so consistent on the road, as you know.

as mentioned before, i think we should take it as a good sign that he's been undertaking such tasks as arranging music videos, attending film fests, and spending long hours at the studio. until there's reason to really lose sleep, negativity can take a hike. happy thoughts.

right on. the sound quality is certainly better than the amazon clip, but yeah, the mix is sounding fresh. i had a good feeling about Zdar. too much acclaim, plus the bboys know how to pick'em when it comes to engineers.

i think their weakest engineered record was prolly TMU, though they themselves were credited for such on the liners. that said, i don't think they did a bad job in that regard by any means.

my favorite artists certainly are those that go off on full album detours, treating each project as its own little tangent.

but i love it when such groups say "fuck it, on this next record let's just fuck shit up the way we do best". it's like saving your patented sound as a treat every few albums. its a tried and true sound, and it's still fresh because everyone has had a break from it. not to mention you pick up some new tricks along the way to input into the classic recipe when time comes again to drop some of that old science.

that said, this is the lead single, so its highly unlikely such is the case. plus adrock has the most distinct voice outta them all, i think.

I've been unapologetically loyal to the bboys since I've been a fan. I've never really dissed anything they've done. Me and my homey were trying to be rappers back in 7th grade. This chorus sounds like something we would've made back then. I just ain't feelin' it and if it's the LEAD SINGLE, I'm kinda worried about the album. I WANT TO BE BLOWN AWAY! Hopefully, I still will be. Leak already goddammit.

Edit: I will say this though....I really do like the sound/production. Sounds like they went in, played the instruments, recorded it and cut it up, samplin' their own shit. I like that.

Also, it makes me feel good that I'm in the minority with my skepticsm here. Good fans on this board. GOOD FANS.

In my opinion rap has gone to the shits of dogs! Beasties are bringing old school and new school together again, something MISSING from the entire industry. If anything I'd expect us to just be right at their side ready to promote the shit out of this and get those young kids ears out of that crap they have been listening to and enjoy some real good and REAL HIP HOP! It's been missed, I am too excited and proud of my B-BOYS right now.

Okay one too many glasses of wine tonight but who cares!

at first I wasn't too hyped about it. But now listening to it (in an altered state). I am really digging it. The hook is different but catchy.

Also, can't stop listening to "Here's a little something for ya" dry mix

I'm like an audiophle with tears/ when I get pissed/ You must attract your dizzy lips...

I know that's not what MCA says, but it's what I'm hearing. Really looking forward to decoding this all very soon.

Considering the song is almost 4 minutes it seems as if they have gone back to the old routine of whoever starts the verse ends it. Every individual verse we have heard was 4 bars so I'm guessing MCA starts the first verse then Adrock then Mike D then MCA again. I also liked how they simply had longer individual verses in Ch-Check It Out as well. This song is going to be awesome. I understand some others' problems with the chorus but all that truly matters to me is the badass rapping, lyrics, and beat.

The message board is fun again with all this new information every couple of days. WOOOH!

Oh and another thing. What was the source of this snippet? I know it came from that website, but they said the Beastie Boys released it? did they hear the bad quality Amazon snippet and just said fuck that and released another better quality clip?

i'll be overjoyed if there's some back and forth rhyming on this album. schizophrenic finishing each other's sentences type shit. havent heard anything like that from them in over a decade. love it when they do that; like paul's boutique or hello nasty.

regardless though, im not gonna lose any sleep if they follow the 4-bar rotation cycle either.

man, when is it just gonna be thursday already!?!

I decided to fuse the two clips together to make a 50 second clip that increases in quality at 0:19.

This video contains content from EMI, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.
Sorry about that.

 Cock Block!!!!!!

That's funny that it did that with just that version. Maybe after it succeeds a certain length limit it activates a meaningless copyright. That used to never happen with Beastie Boys content. Ever since a little over a year ago EMI copyrights everything Beastie Boys. Even the videos on the Beastie Boys' Youtube.

Bitches...

"too many rappers" 5 stars,"heres a little something for ya" 5 stars.
very wise to get rid of the very weak "pop your balloon"
five very very strong tracks, the album should be one of their best, worth the wait.

Yeah but that would only total to aprox 30 seconds a verse and the hook is only about 17 seconds long so total would be 2 minutes and 21 seconds total for all the vocals. Assuming there is probably a 19-20 second intro and probably some kind of outro probably no longer than 19-20 seconds as well plus the break they usually have which is usually about 9-10 seconds would round up to around 3:10. So add 30 more seconds (4 more bars to each verse) that adds up to 3:40 seconds based on my ideas. I know that there is probably a skit or something in the beginning or end of the song as well but the intro and or outro can easily be shorter than 8 bars. That's just a random guess.

They might also have regular verses but the last verse is extra long like in Triple Trouble, but that would kind of throw off the routine that I think they have going for hook.
