I think it would be great if a few venues worldwide had pre-release listening parties for HSC. Listening to the LP for the first time will have some grand energy for sure. I recall going to a HN launch in '98 and it was awesome. Below is a pic of one of the booklets for a pre-listening party in July 1998.

If put in the position of the people who checked out the mix up early, none of us would have turned down that opportunity.

I like the idea of listening parties, I guess. I recall gumkojima writing something cringeworthy and pretentious about it being the ultimate in artist/fan engagement. If it means I could blaze one (or none) and hear something new I guess I'd be in it.

I'd write amazingly about it, too. ;)

I went to the HN listening party. It was at a small club called The Metro where BS2000 later played and where the Beasties did a Secret Session before their Pageant show in '04.

After they played the whole CD they premiered the Intergalactic video.

I'd be down for an HSC party.

That's too cool. I thought it was funny the way the guys described the listening party for Hello Nasty. I think they were joking about how long it was and that they would be surprised if folks were sneaking out before it got to part two or something. :p:p

What do you mean?

Here's my official note for the suggestion box to please schedule a few HSCP2 listening parties along with showings of the FFYR revisited short film. (lb)

Thanks!

its hard to say. there's something very magical and intimate about acquainting yourself to a new record by one of your favorite artists for the first time. it's a personal, necessary process. that first listen, of complete privacy and total focus, is really the biggest payoff of the entire cycle, IMO. especially after a roller-coaster like the HSC one. a noisy, impersonal public atmosphere like that sounds like it would really spoil the impact.

that said, I'd sell my grandmother for a ticket to any pre-release listening party with a 30 mile radius. :p

We are overwhelmed with calls and emails from friends in the Beastie Boys fan community about our promised review of the Beastie Boys' new album The Mix Up. We will definitely have a review and more information about the new album to share soon.

Although we are not allowed to share any audio from the album, we can share personal video from the listening party. (It's not our fault if you can hear the music playing in the background!) The soonest we can post this video is Wednesday, so please check back then.

All we'll say for now about The Mix Up is the album is completely unique. All the clues you've heard and read are accurate. Northern soul, soundtrack, spy music...it's all there. It's NOT a repeat of The In Sound from Way Out. Do not expect to hear "Sabrosa"-style songs. It's the Beastie Boys like you've never heard them before.

If anyone hears of some type of pre-party for the release, please spread the word. Would sell my left nut to hear this album a week or two early.

Ha yeah I remember that. Fair enough, thanks for clarifying. (y)

Who has been to a listening party for the BB's? Anybody? Being new to the forum I wouldn't know much but would definitely love to be spoiled with the new music even a day early. I keep thinking okay not many music stores anymore except for Walmart, Target and Bestbuy least in Houston... So I'm gonna call besbuy and they better have it on May 3rd because I'm not waiting for it to come in the mail.

I'd be willing to hose a pre-release party in Virginia Beach or Norfolk, VA since I dj there. Start it around 10pm on Monday, May 2nd, then play the new shit at midnight if I have access to it, since it will be the 3rd.
