Yeah, those days when I was half in college and half on the dole, and stuck in fucking Tasmania, and was totally dissatisfied with my life and I was crabby and wanted to pick fights with everyone. And I spent a whole bunch of time on here talking to stangers.
I could have been, at the very least, outside, enjoying life, doing things rather than sitting inside drinking cheap vodka and coke zero.
Now I'm in charge of a business and work something like 65 hours a week and wish I had free time like that do just do nothing and talk to people on the internet.

I think part of the appeal back then was that the every day users were actual Mods, which made everyone a bit more involved with each other. minton and tpk were around and this was the social scene prior to myspace and now fb.

the only way to keep up with each other's lives, or see pics for that matter was through the family album. now, it's all about daily updates on fb.

Back when TT5B came out (if I was cool I would've said "dropped"), when I first joined the site; Yeti and Paul Jones were the first people I remember dialouging with......Like myself they where what I considered "Old School" fans from the time of LTI etc........Back then everybody had to prove their "realness" (which was fun) by quoting lyrics etc in the Beastie General Discussion threads...........Corny, but fun......

Back in '04/'05 you could (in five minutes or less) get insulted royaly by Ace 42 (he wasn't 42X back then) Schmeltz, Anasazi and Q-Drop on the political discussion board, for a variety of reasons ranging from: inferior intellect, not linking credible sources, being a media puppet, or religiously brainwashed......in short it was FUN! The conversation was stimulating, and more often than not, humorous.

Talk about pirate ships, sailing the high seas, Pumas, Addidas shoes or what you had for breakfast with Paul Jones, Yeti, Mickill, Little J, Lethal Apricot, Heiress, abcdefz and a host of others in Beastie Free.....
Listen to what the "new fans" had to say in General Beastie........... and go to the Family Album for a serious laugh, all before your Starbucks got cold....It WAS Facebook for BEASTIE BOY fans, before there was a facebook.......complete with status/relationship updates and the like (and yes we really cared, though we pretended we didn't sometimes).............That was the most fun I ever had while at work in a long time..............
Of course even then the "Old Timers" complained about how the board had changed from the time of the "blue screen" and how the new people (like me) were ruining it with randomness.........so I guess it's a full circle kind of thing............

Perhaps the New album will bring back some of the "old friends" who I only really knew by their avatars and humorous/insulting quips..........when there was just a lot more variety in the dialouge in general.....discussions ranging from religion (my personal favorite) to the last place you threw up (you get the idea).......now (some) people seem a little more uptight then they did back then, and tend to dismiss you out of hand.....perhaps "political correctness" has taken it's toll.

I just remember this was the place where I first felt that "yeah" feeling because no one I knew liked Beastie Boys music like I did and EVERYONE here was a huge fan.
Whatever the case, I will always check in from time to time to "see" who is ruling the boards.......and attempt to "join in" on the fun.
