Horrible.

HORRIBLE.

And that video - Jesus.

This breaks my heart. I guess this is what its like for rockers when they see Iggy Pop selling insurance.

Emo rap will eat itself.

i had no idea this was out. i have just watched whole 7.37 secs.

I need a minute to compose my thoughts.

well it was about two hours ago and i still cant put into words, i thought about a massive rant but it'd be incomprehensible so i just have to agree with what roosta said. It's horrible and disappointing and the video is so bad.

i tend to put 'angry/emotional' eminem away in the back of my mind and pretend he doesn't exist.
edit: and this song fits perfectly in that section. watch it be huge on commercial.

Every word = wisdom. Brilliantly put.

It's so shit, I don't even want to hear Detox. I lie. But, still this song is a fucking clanger of a thing.

I just naively expected him to come back with something of substance, sure it was never going to be as god as previous albums but i didnt expect him to tow the commercial line as much as this. He was supposed to come back and say "this is me and this is how i do it" even if it was similar to the last i would have preferred that to the monkey spunk of i need a doctor.

It's so animal-bangingly bad I don't think I'll buy Detox.

If we can be objective for a minute, these are the things that ruined any potential this song might have originally had:

The mix sounds awful. Even on the highest quality sound system it sounds like it's being played off an 8-bit Gameboy
Eminem & Dre both totally spurn all of their friends in favour of their borderline gay obsession with each other, which was cool on What's The Difference but is now bordering on creepy and upsetting
Dre is basically admitting he does not give a shit about music any more, because he is set for life money-wise. Not a great return to your art if you ask me
The chorus is OK and the structure (Em's 2 verses about "bringing him back to life" then Dre's "big comeback") could have been a good idea but the song has about as much swagger as an OAP being treated for shock after a bus crash (which is basically the premise of the video)

The video is incredible up until the point the song starts.

yeah i thought that, it made it even more disappointing after such a great build up.

it just felt like he was following rather than doing his own thing, if it was released as an eminem track i wouldnt have batted an eyelid.

I was talking to a friend today about it and he alleged that dre bought all his best beats from other younger producers and the reason he is shit now is cos he isnt doing that. I doubted it and asked for references but there was nothing forthcoming. Thoughts?

I agree on this. I heard the track quite a while ago then saw the video a few weeks ago, it almost made me think the song was good until I listened to it again without the video and realised it is in fact still shite.

swagger is dead brah.

shit can be swag now.

but swagger is reserved for 40 year old and up ESPN and NFL analysts.

Swagger can't be "dead" because it's not a hip-hop term. It's a real word, that people use in the real world outside of rap.

Are you really so stupid that you think old people using the word "swagger" are trying to sound young and cool, just because you learned the word from hip-hop?

I'm glad we are all in general agreement this is a pile of poo.

Also (and excuse my ignorance, I've fallen behind in rap-beefs) I asume 50 and Dre have fallen out? The song/video more or less completely ignore him?

Anyway - who cares. This is just awful.

I heard the song ages ago, but the video has just compounded how bad all this is.

Actually depressed to see him come to this.

And - the muscles ? Looks like your man Bane in Batman and Robin. Is that an inflatable suit?

I have just been out to town and heard the song in a shopping centre and found myself humming it for a while after, its still donkey piss.

ha, its the american football player. you dont get it. its a way for them to try and be hip by using language that young people use.

the word swagger has been around for a loonnng time. but what im talking about didnt happen until it became popularized by the hiphop/athlete community. then people who arent in that community (or used to be and are desperately trying to hang on) start using that word and bring it into their vocab as they try to look/sound cool, but really just sound like d-bags using it.

it happens with a lot of things in life.

i cant see there being many words that should be dead. thats a bit harsh

not at all. lots of things come in and out of style and get played out by over usage; by the media or just over saturation. its a lot like when some social phenomena becomes cool, its cool because of whos doing it and the exclusiveness of it. once everyone starts doing it or using it it loses its exclusiveness and ceases to be cool.

you can even see a lot of people not saying swagger any more, they just say swag. as a synonym for cool or hype. however, who you dont see saying it are the nfl/espn gaylords. because it hasn't gotten to them yet, they dont know they are still using a word that is already dated.

example...its like there was a time 10 years ago or so when bling and jiggy were a cool word. now they are corny because you would hear your mother saying them.

Guy Incognito

sure fashions change in usage but the word never dies completely. thats what i was saying. Any self respecting rapper/poet/novelist/singer etc would surely view ALL words as usable.

Personally I have never liked Eminem. He's been out how long now? He's not evolved at all. All of his rants sound the same, just boring as hell, no creativity, just one long monotone of rants and yelling. Can't stand him. I love Dr. Dre but you know if he keeps working with his little protege Eminem then I can only expect what he puts out is gonna suck. He needs to just stay SOLO. I'm tired of these artists who always gotta team up on everything in order to sell music and look good. Do it on your own! (n)

This is what I'm trying to explain to you: swagger does not fit into the category of "swag", "bling" and "jiggy" (whatever the fuck that means). Sports commentators were saying the word swagger long before Jim Jones and 50 Cent introduced it to people like you, and they will be probably forever. It was one of the most commonly used words by commentators to describe Ali's boxing style... I don't think those guys were trying to look cool by saying it.

ya, you, however were not using the word regularly until recently im just guessing. and the obvious correlation is there.

i had heard it used rarely by anyone if ever up until the past couple of years. now it is overused. annoyingly.

So do you know about stuff like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xbw_BxDwdjk)? Definitely not an uncreative monotone rant.

And his relationship with Dre has produced some classic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFcv5Ma8u8k) tracks. Even when it has got a little homoerotic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PANEcjhSfv4).

I can understand you thinking he sounds the same on some of his singles but a lot of that is just the business part of it. If only if you had heard his full albums then you would see his evolutions and creativity. Of course a lot of his unreleased tracks are shit pants awesome and even better than a lot of his album stuff. He is more of a lyricist than anything else.

As for Dre he is mainly a producer (which is why it's stupid that he hasn't produced the last two singles). He has writers for his songs (sometimes Eminem). He can't really do it on his own exactly considering he doesn't write his raps.

I myself simply don't get why they decided to use some girl to sing the chorus for no reason when she has no relation to them and some producer (Alex Da Kidd) making the basic beat (with a cool drum beat at least) when the song is appearently about those two themselves. I think Eminem and probably Dre too are insecure about their music despite their skill, because they know how music has changed so much they don't realize that if they had released pure awesome songs like they used to then they would probably still be huge, but they don't want to take chances and so they are letting their music become popped up.

Eminem used to diss almost every type of person he works with now flat out. Even though he is subliminally dissing Drake and Lil Wayne A LOT. Especially in the songs he is in with them.

The point is. Your opinion is your opinion but Eminem does not suck. Trust me. He still makes awesome songs. Just not as many considering the co-writers, producers and pressure from the industry.
