View Full Version : Brazilian jiu-jitsu schools and their cost

After years of watching others do it, I decided to learn some Brazilian jiu-jitsu myself and started looking around at various schools. There's a lot of them popping up around here but I have no idea what a reasonable monthly cost would be.

For example, one well-known national chain charges $150 per month, with a $120 downpayment. Is that reasonable? Or too high? Though the coach told me members can come in and train as many times per week as they want, so that seemed like an advantage.

Thanks for any advice! (y)

Unlimited training sounds like a definite plus.

My criteria:

1) How thorough/often can the leg be swept?
2) In which dojo does Pain exist?

Good luck to your ears!:D I've still got my headgear from my wrestling days (real wrestling, folkstyle to be exact, not the "pro" stuff) if my training partner really gets into super-tight tie-ups and such.

No one else?

Y'all do know many people use jiu-jitsu for self-defense- me for instance - not for offensive purposes, right? Plus like wrestling it's just fun to do. Though I do understand some think both sports are "violent" but really, they're not.

Compare the typical match (wrestling or bjj) to a football or basketball game and count how many b-ball or football players end the night with nasty injuries, many of which keep them from playing that night or the next few days. Wrestling/bjj? Some bruises, small cuts on the face possibly and maybe a stressed out tendon or two, but hardly ever anything as bad as those other two sports.
